The researchers of educational faculties conduct educational research, pure scientific research o... more The researchers of educational faculties conduct educational research, pure scientific research or discipline-based educational research as to their interest. All of these researches are important and contribute to the improvement of these faculties. However, as these faculties take the name of education, there are some opinions that show educational and discipline-based educational research should be more focused on. On the other hand, pure scientific researchers believe that the kernel of science is pure scientific research. Based on these arguments, this study tried to give voice to researchers of educational faculties. Thus, the aim of this study is to identify researchers' perceptions of scientific research (SR), pure scientific research (PSR), educational research (ER) and discipline-based educational research (DBER). To achieve this goal, phenomenology was carried out. The sample was formed through maximum variation sampling. The participants of the study consisted of 10 researchers working at Atatürk University Kâzım Karabekir Education Faculty. The data obtained through semi-structured interviews were analyzed through content analysis. The findings showed that the researchers described the SR as a systematic process of gathering and analyzing data; PSR as theoretical research which tried to understand the nature of a discipline; ER as an applied research related to education and training; and DBER as a combination of ER and PSR. Moreover, it was seen that the researchers believed that DBER did not contribute to the educational system of country due to some reasons such as policy and lack of DBER researchers.
Öz Yükseköğretim Kurulu'nun 13/12/2015 tarihli yazısı uyarınca 2016 yılından iti-baren geçerli ol... more Öz Yükseköğretim Kurulu'nun 13/12/2015 tarihli yazısı uyarınca 2016 yılından iti-baren geçerli olmak üzere öğretim elemanlarına yaptıkları akademik çalışmalara istina-den akademik teşvik ödeneği verilmesi kararlaştırılmıştır. Bu ödenek olumlu bir adım olarak nitelendirilmiş olup birçok akademisyenin bu karardan memnun olduğu görül-mektedir. Öte yandan, araştırma niceliğinin artarken niteliğinin düşeceği gibi eleştiriler de ortaya atılmıştır. Bu çalışmada akademisyenlerin teşvik ödeneğine ilişkin görüşlerine yer verilmiştir. Akademisyenlerin; akademik teşvik ödeneğini kararının alınma sebeple-rine, akademik teşviğin olumlu ve olumsuz yanlarına ve ödeneğe başvururken karşılaşı-lan problemlere yönelik düşüncelerinin ne yönde olduğu çalışmanın araştırma sorularını oluşturmaktadır. Araştırma sorularını cevaplamak için nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden olan durum çalışması desenine başvurulmuştur. Araştırmanın çalışma grubunu üç farklı devlet üniversitesinden toplam 60 akademisyen oluşturmaktadır. Veri toplama aracı ola-rak açık uçlu soru formu kullanılmıştır. İçerik analizine tabi tutulan veriler sonucunda akademisyenlerin yayın yapmaya teşvik, akademisyenleri denetlemek, akademisyenliğe ilgiyi arttırmak, üniversitelerin yayın sıralamasını yükseltmek gibi nedenlerle akademik teşviğe ihtiyaç duyulduğu görüşünde oldukları görülmüştür. Teşvik ödeneğinin olumlu yönleri olarak yayın sayısının artması, akademisyenlerin güdülenmesi, disiplinler arası çalışmaların artış göstermesi, akademik farkındalığın artması gösterilmiştir. Olumsuz yönleri ise niceliğin artarken niteliğin düşmesi, etik açıdan eksiklikler, ölçütlerin net ol-maması, en az 5 yıllık dergi kuralının dergilerin gelişimini olumsuz etkilemesi ve öğre-tim çalışmalarının ikinci plana atılması gösterilmiştir. Sonuç olarak akademik teşvik ödeneğinin uygulanması ile ilgili bazı düzenlemelere gidilmesi gerekliliği ortaya çıkmış-tır. Bu düzenlemelere yönelik öneriler is şu şekilde sırlanabilir: a) YÖK tüm üniversiteler için objektif fakülte bazlı kriterler oluşturmalıdır, b) benzer konu ve veriyi içeren çalış-malar akademik teşvik ödeneği kapsamına alınmamalıdır, c) " en az 5 yıldır yayın haya
The aim of this study is to determine the views of pre-service teachers on the use of Facebook fo... more The aim of this study is to determine the views of pre-service teachers on the use of Facebook for providing peer feedback on their microteachings. To serve this aim, a case study was conducted with 38 English language pre-service teachers. Firstly, these pre-service teachers did their microteachings and uploaded the videos of these microteachings to a Facebook group opened by the researchers. Then, it was provided that the members of this Facebook group which were their classmates comment on these videos. In order to collect data, an open-ended questionnaire which was formed by the researchers was conducted to the pre-service teachers. The findings showed that the pre-service teachers were positive towards using peer feedback through Facebook (PFF after then) in teacher education. PFF helped them be aware of their weaknesses and strengths in their both pedagogic and linguistic knowledge. Thus, it was suggested that SNS like Facebook could be benefited in teacher education to improve both pedagogic and content knowledge of pre-service teachers.
İçinde bulunduğumuz çağda bilgisayar ve internet, hayatın her alanında sıkça başvurulan eğlence v... more İçinde bulunduğumuz çağda bilgisayar ve internet, hayatın her alanında sıkça başvurulan eğlence ve iletişim aracı haline dönüşmüştür. İnsan yaşamının önemli bir parçası olan oyunun, günümüz teknolojisine paralel olarak dijitalleşmesi, oyun karakterleri ve alanlarının/mekânlarının yeniden sorgulanmasını beraberinde getirmektedir. Öyle ki dijital oyunlar son yıllarda bilgisayar ve internet ortamında en çok tercih edilen pratiklerden biri haline gelmiştir. Her geçen gün yaş ve cinsiyet fark etmeksizin bireylerin gündelik yaşamına dâhil ettikleri ve her gün artan sürelerle tükettiği dijital oyunlar, gelişen teknoloji ile birlikte daha gerçekçi etkileşimli ortamlara dönüşmekte insan algısının her yönünü kuşatan anlatılar gelişmektedir. Özellikle son yıllarda hız kazanan internet kullanımı dijital oyunların insanlara ulaşım ve çevrimiçi olarak oynanma kolaylığı sağlamaktadır. Bu dönüşümler ise kullanıcıların kişisel gelişim ve sosyal yaşantısı üzerinde etkili olmaktadır. Sosyal yaşamda ve kişisel gelişimde bu kadar etkili olan dijital oyunların içerisinde müstehcen olgular taşıyarak, toplum içerisinde cinsel içerikli çağrışımlarda bulunması toplumun utanma ve edep duygusunu incitmekte ve kullanıcıları özellikle de çocukları olumsuz yönde etkilemektedir. Bu bağlamda toplumun büyük bir kesimine hitap eden dijital oyunların “müstehcenlik” olgusuna içeriklerinde ne kadar ve nasıl yer verdikleri bu çalışmanın inceleme konusunu oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışmada 2014 yılı içerisinde oyun sitelerinde ve internet üzerinden en çok oynanan 11 oyun üzerinde göstergebilimsel analiz yoluyla “müstehcenlik” olgusu incelenecektir.

This study tries to determine the pre-service teachers’ views on the role of the EPOSTL (European... more This study tries to determine the pre-service teachers’ views on the role of the EPOSTL (European Portfolio for Student Teachers of Languages) in increasing the effectiveness of Methodology course. Methodology course is crucial at English Language Teaching Departments as its main goal is to fill the gap between theory and practice. However, it is arguable that it is successful in filling this gap. Therefore, a way- the EPOSTL that could help improve the course was suggested by determining the views of the student teachers in this study. In order to determine these views, firstly a pilot study in which the EPOSTL was used was carried out in Methodology course for 16 weeks. After the pilot study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 8 student teachers. The qualitative data gathered from the interviews were analyzed by using content analysis. The results showed that student teachers had positive attitudes towards using the EPOSTL in the Methodology course. The student teachers believed that the EPOSTL increased the effectiveness of this course as it provided more feedback, self- assessment and reflection. And Methodology course with the EPOSTL was much closer to filling the gap between theory and practice.

Some scholars agree that linguistics should be taught as it has advantages such as guiding language teaching and providing command of language. On the other hand, others are the opinion that linguistics is a theoretical area and what is needed in language teaching is practical use of language as the new humanistic approaches focus on the communicative aim of language teaching. Despite the controversies, linguistics is taught at all the English Language Teaching Departments of universities in Turkey. Hence, pre-service teachers in Turkey learn about not only the theory of pedagogy in other words how to teach but also the content which means what you know about your field in order to train teachers being proficient in their fields and knowing the best ways of transferring their knowledge to the students. Hence, English language teaching departments’ curriculum involving linguistics aims at gaining linguistic knowledge to pre-service teachers. The teachers who are aware of their linguistic knowledge and use it while teaching English are expected to be more successful in teaching English. This paper concentrates on the contributions of linguistics to language teaching by presenting different opinions about the controversy about the necessity of linguistic knowledge for being a good teacher and of teaching linguistics in universities.
