To evoke the Mediterranean, means summoning up the extraordinary history of the many great civilisations shaped on its shores over the centuries. But it also means facing up to its future, which is more uncertain than ever. The various pressures associated with its use, population growth, pollution and global warming are all threats to its future, global warming are all threats to its unique biodiversity and ecosystem services.This brand new immersive and interactive exhibition "Méditerranée 2050" aims to encourage visitors to the Monaco ‘s Oceanographic Museum to take a new interest in the Mediterranean and become involved in its protection, through a space-time journey to 2050.

Faced with the unknown (illness, death, tomorrow), rituals are a way of organising chaos, of "knowing what to do", of dispelling fear and confronting trials. How does one move from the profane to the sacred? What meaning is given to everyday gestures? What role do shamans, healers and priestesses play? What objects serve as mediators in these exchanges between humans and gods: fetishes, masks, cult statues? What is the diversity of these practices, and what are their common threads? What is the history of magical rituals, their foundation, their raison d'être? How can we understand the precise meaning of gestures that are repeated and passed down from generation to generation, from master to initiate, from father to son?

This richly illustrated, educational and interactive exhibition tells the story of the birth and evolution of our species, Homo sapiens, and of the entire human lineage known as Hominins.It traces the journey, through long migrations, of human beings who invented tools and mastered fire, before leaving the African cradle of humanity and eventually settling, for the past approximately 10,000 years, across the entire planet. These fascinating and open-ended questions are explored in this exhibition, which is further enriched by multimedia content (interviews, 3D views of prehistoric objects, quizzes, games, etc.).Like all exhibitions by Synops editions, From Toumaï to Sapiens is aimed at a wide audience and shares scientific knowledge in an educational and engaging way. Passionate about sharing knowledge, Synops editions design exhibitions that are both educational, interactive and immersive, intended for museums, media libraries, associations, science and technology culture centres and all types of public venues.

The keynote lecture by Siri Hustvedt, delivered as part of the Principality Prize awarded jointly by the Prince Pierre Foundation and the Monaco Philosophical Encounters.The lecture took place on 17 October 2025 at the Théâtre des Variétés, Monaco.// About Siri Hustvedt – Siri Hustvedt is the author of a poetry collection, six essay collections and seven novels, including The Blazing World, shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize and winner of the Los Angeles Book Prize for Fiction. Her work spans literature, philosophy, neuroscience and psychoanalysis, earning her prestigious distinctions including the International Gabarron Prize for Thought and Humanities, the European Essay Prize from the Charles Veillon Foundation, the Literature Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, and the Princess of Asturias Prize in Spain. Born in Minnesota and based in Brooklyn, New York, Siri Hustvedt stands as a major voice in the international intellectual landscape.// The Principality Prize – The Prince Pierre Foundation of Monaco and the founding members of the Monaco Philosophical Encounters are jointly committed to awarding the Principality Prize each year to an author for the body of their philosophical work, honouring a lifetime of writing in philosophy—a singular œuvre that has opened new paths in the field of philosophy and engaged innovative approaches to science, politics, theology, history, anthropology, ethics and psychoanalysis. The Principality Prize laureate is invited to deliver a lecture following the prize ceremony.
