I am a labor researcher with more than four years of research work in the labor movement. In addition to my years as a researcher in the labor movement, I have three years of work experience as a researcher and conflict resolution advocate in international development and human rights organizations. I have experience working for labor unions, non-profits, IGOs, news organizations, and grassroots organizations in the United States, Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East. I also have a vast technical background with a Masters in International Development, a Masters in

When tuning a laser between two excited energy levels of the atoms in a discharge plasma, the dis... more When tuning a laser between two excited energy levels of the atoms in a discharge plasma, the discharge current will temporarily be disturbed. This disturbance or change in current is the optogalvanic effect (OGE). The fundamental goal of this project is to determine the exponential rates in the time-dependent OGE signals. These rates are related to the collision rates for the atoms in the plasma. The OGE data will be experimentally recorded, fitted, and analyzed to extract the exponential rates related to the energy levels of the atom in gas i~ the discharge lamp.

The synthesis of Na 8 Si 46 and Na 24 Si 136 without clathrate impurity phases and in relatively ... more The synthesis of Na 8 Si 46 and Na 24 Si 136 without clathrate impurity phases and in relatively high yield was achieved by oxidation of Na 4 Si 4 from the byproduct of the decomposition of the ionic liquid (IL) n-dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride (DTAC) combined with AlCl 3 . Maintaining separation of the IL from the precursor together with careful control of the synthetic parameters, temperature and time in particular, allowed for the synthesis of both clathrate structure types without need for further annealing. Refinement of the microcrystalline products indicated that both clathrate-I and II phases possess full Na and Si occupancies.

In this current globalized world, indigenous populations, marginalized throughout history, face a... more In this current globalized world, indigenous populations, marginalized throughout history, face an increasing loss of their land and culture. In response to this homogenization of their culture, loss of their land, and the continuing lack of their political and economic rights, indigenous movements in Ecuador and Mexico rose up in the 1990s demanding an end to this marginalization. Through work with key allies and members of these communities, this investigation intends to understand and elucidate the indigenous perspective of the effects of western culture and globalization on these indigenous peoples, and their ways of resisting and living in this globalized world.

When a laser is tuned between two excited energy levels of a gas in a Direct Current discharge la... more When a laser is tuned between two excited energy levels of a gas in a Direct Current discharge lamp, the discharge current will experience a temporary disturbance lasting tens or hundreds of microseconds known as the optogalvanic effect. We have carried out extensive studies of optogalvanic effects in neon discharge plasmas for transitions at 621.7 nm, 630.5 nm, 638.3 nm, 650.7 nm and 659.9 nm. A nonlinear leastsquares Monte Carlo technique has been used to determine the relevant amplitude coefficients, decay rates and the instrumental time constant. We discovered an abrupt change in the neon discharge plasma at a discharge current of about 6 mA.
