Palau y Dulcet, deny that Olivia Sabuco (recognized for over 400 years) was the author of the book Nueva filosofia de la naturaleza del hombre, no conocida ni alcancada de los grandes filosofos antiguos, la cual mejora la vida y salud humana, and attribute it to her father Miguel, since a work of such scope was "... not within reach of a 20-year old girl." Nonetheless, through an exhaustive investigation, the authors of this article have irrefutable proof —backed up by the Royal Privilege for the publication of the work granted to Oliva Sabuco on July 23, 1586— of Oliva's authorship.

This contribution is potentially more important than that made through fluoridation of municipal water supplies, and through the use of topical fluorides and sealants. Organized dentistry can take several steps to limit the spread of infectious diseases including AIDS and Hepatitis-B in the course of delivering dental care. First, it can work more closely with government efforts to educate the public and the practice community respecting the risk of contracting AIDS and Hepatitis-B in the dental setting. It can do this in part by creating public expectations that dentists will appropriately implement those techniques. Second, it can more effectively advocate practitioner use of well-validated infection-control techniques, not only by continuing to provide practitioner training in their appropriate use, but if necessary, by monitoring compliance with them. Third, organized dentistry can send clear messages to dental practitioners regarding the profession’s commitment to equal access to dental care, and regarding the ethics of patient referral.

While some such issues are similar to those found in the general practice of psychiatry (confidentiality, informed consent, etc.), there are aspects of these and other ethical issues which are unique to the practice of forensic psychiatry. On October 16 and 17, 1980, at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Psychiatry and Law held in Chicago, Illinois, a panel discussion concerning ethical issues in forensic psychiatry took place. The chairman was Henry C. Weinstein, M.D., Director, Forensic Psychiatry Services, Bellevue Hospital Center, New York. This panel, made up of two forensic psychiatrists and two philosophers (with special interests in medical ethics), discussed the ethical issues in the practice of forensic psychiatry from a variety of perspectives. A general statement in regard to ethics and forensic psychiatry opened the panel, followed by a series of presentations relating to specific ethical issues, including those which face the forensic psychiatrist practicing in a secure forensic unit, those which arise in the practice of forensic psychiatry with children and adolescents, as well as ethical issues relating to research in forensic psychiatry. A special program for the exploration and teaching of ethical issues, in a clinical forensic psychiatric setting, utilizing a philosopher-in-residence, was described and discussed. The panel presentation was concluded by a commentary from the philosophical perspective.
