"Digital rights management refers to the technologies or processes that describe and identify digital content protected by intellectual property rights and which enforce usage rules set by rightholders or prescribed by law for digital content"

2 Comments on the definition

2.1: by Mr Ted Shapiro:
We have some comments on the proposed definition of DRM which is a very useful starting point. We think that the definition of DRM also needs to include the element of access as well as usage rules. Moreover, we think the definition should also include a security element. DRMs that function to "describe and identify digital content" have to operate in a secure fashion. We would suggest:

"Digital rights management refers to the technologies or processes that describe and identify digital content protected by intellectual property rights and which enforce ACCESS AND usage rules set by rightholders or prescribed by law for digital content IN A SECURE MANNER"
