The Client
Property and Construction Consultancy
With over a half a century’s experience, NRP are market-leading consultants. They provide services in construction, highways & infrastructure, and traffic & transportation. Consulting on and delivering projects for their clients, they work collaboratively to ensure long-term success.
They deploy modern, agile working techniques, and form strategic partnerships. Despite their impressive growth, they maintain the ethos and agility of a much smaller consultancy. So, they needed a WordPress website to suit.
A Scalable Service Architecture
Informed by User Research
User Experience is a key element of considering a consultancy WordPress website design. As a consultancy with many different areas of expertise, NRP faced a challenge in succinctly talking about what they offer. In order to understand how to order and categorise their services, we first had to get to know NRP’s users.
It was important not just to find out how NRP think about their services, but to understand how their users do. By doing so, we were able to order and group services under headings which made sense. That way, their users can find the specific services they need, quickly and easily.
Different user personas approach the site in different ways. Some personas are more likely to require specific services, like “project management”. However, some needed examples of other work completed for a similar sector.
So, we created a bespoke service architecture, which gave users the necessary freedom. This meant that users can find what they needed through different means, with a custom user journey.
A Refreshed Menu Design
Focussing on Navigation
Through our work on user research, we realised that the menu design was an extremely important element of the work. Various personas were looking for very different things on the site. We could not prioritise any one user journey over another.
With that in mind, we designed a menu structure which could account for the very distinct user flows. It was important that “Sectors” and “Services” each had their own area on the site, as we knew that these were priorities.
However, we also needed to design a split drop-down for the Projects. We categorised each project by services and sectors, such that the user could click on a category from either, and see an appropriate list of projects. In this sense, the service architecture was embedded into the design of the site.
Like with all sites designed by Crucible, the website design is mobile first, working just as well on mobile devices as desktop.
Digital Identity
A fresh look for a consultancy WordPress website
NRP had updated their brand not long before partnering with Crucible. However, its digital identity had been somewhat left behind. We needed to create a modern digital identity which was harmonious with the brand as it existed. With that in mind, we took what already existed and built upon it.
The purple colour of NRP was known in the industry, but was becoming outdated. Therefore colour palette was embraced but updated, with more digitally-ready highlights and accents selected. We incorporated a green colour, to emphasise NRP’s commitment to sustainability.
Visual parts of the branding were extrapolated, and turned into delightful branded elements. We worked out subtle animations on these elements, to ensure a modern and engaging User Interface. Other non-intrusive animations were added to the site to bolster this feeling.
