Ronaldo became the third youngest player in Europe to get 100 caps yesterday. The fans unveiled a banner at the game for their beloved captain -

His shirt went to little-known Huddersfield midfielder Oliver Norwood - all thanks to Rio Ferdinand! Ronaldo was approached by many players but told them politely his shirt had already been promised to someone else.

The lucky 21 year old was totally thrilled and spoke about what had happened (via the Daily Mail) -
Rio and I have the same agent, and I knew he had kept in touch with Ronaldo from their days together at United...So I phoned him last week and asked if he could put a word in for me. I just explained how much it would mean to have Ronaldo’s shirt, and could he possibly see what the chances were...I was hoping that might do the trick, but I wanted to make sure, so I went up to Ronaldo before the game and introduced myself. He just said: “Yeah, Rio spoke to me. Don’t worry - the shirt’s yours.”

A few of the lads went up to him at the end, but he was as good as his word. He wasn’t happy about the way the game had gone and wasn’t exactly in the best of moods, but he actually came over to me, shook hands and said: “I haven’t forgotten. You can have the shirt.”

That just rounded off a great night for me. I couldn’t have wished for a better keepsake from such a fantastic occasion. Of all the memorabilia I have picked up during my career, this is far and away the best.

It's been a couple of weeks, but andriy_7 has made some lovely gifs of some of Cristiano Ronaldo's moments during his first Champions League match, for which he scored a dramatic last minute winner.

The opponents were Manchester City, a team he will have been familiar with from his time in Manchester with United.

The world's greatest ever sprinter, Usain Bolt, has thrown his weight into the debate over who is the best football player on the planet and claimed that it is Cristiano Ronaldo, not Lionel Messi.

Bolt, who has made it clear he would love a chance to prove his football skills in a trial with Manchester United, has shown his dominance on the athletic stage at the London 2012 Olympics by successfully winning gold in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay for a second successive Games.

Now he insists that Barcelona star Messi, who won the Ballon d'Or in 2009, 2010 and 2011 is not quite as good as Real Madrid winger and most the world's most expensive player Ronaldo.

"No doubt Cristiano is better than Messi. He is a more complete player," Bolt told Portuguese channel RTP. "I would give [the Ballon d'Or] to Cristiano. He has managed to stay on top and that's the most difficult thing..."

"Since I taught Ronaldo in 2009 he has gone on to score 40 goals a season, I don't think he would have scored them all without my training.

The CR7 Post - Mesut Ozil Is Interviewed About Portugal By Kicker &
Shares Thoughts On CR7 In Welt Online!

Germany will play Portugal in two days in their opening game and a great deal of interest has naturally been expressed on the game and on CR7 in particular in the German press. And true to his father's promise of much more Mesut exposure from now on, Mesut has been in the spotlight on this subject as the German National team's resident Cristiano Ronaldo expert.

Mesut was in high demand this week

The first part of this post comprises a description Mesut "wrote" about Cristiano Ronaldo that is part of a longer piece on the player. The newspaper seems to have interviewed him on the subject and to have amalgamated all his answers into straight prose rather than as a question and answer. This makes it far more fluid.

The second part of this post is Mesut's featured interview (quite short) in Kicker magazine of just this morning. He is their "Interview of the Week" this week and he is asked to explain specifically about the meeting with Portugal.

"Whenever he couldn’t play or he missed a game, he was devastated."

Erin alerted me to her true love's appearance in a magazine. I don't speak Italian, but I don't think it was the quotes she was really interested in. Likewise, you might be inclined to admire the lad as he models our beautiful new NT away kit and works out in the gym. Of course, you're welcome to throw in a translation if you speak the language. ;)

I'm sexy and I know it.Collapse )

Second, we have the second excerpt from the new biography "Ronaldo: The Obsession for Perfection," in which we explore the very beginning of Cristiano's career as a child.

Ronaldo was so distraught that he was sobbing like a child who’s had his favourite toy confiscated.Collapse )

Let's be real: the real surprise of this graphic was Benzema.

Once upon a time, there was a wide-eyed little German named Mesut. Despite his tendency to look like he had tuberculosis after long matches, he was a very good footballer who was renowned in his homeland for his remarkable precision and creativity. But like any boy, he dreamed of playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world. He dreamed of playing for... Barcelona. Oops. Well, we can forgive his naivete, can't we? It wasn't long before Real Madrid became the club his heart was set on. Little did he know that, along with the potential for professional glory, he would meet the long-lost, over-gelled, concerningly tan brother he'd never known he had.

And so it was.Collapse )
