This community was created for the discussion of the technical aspects of costuming. Individuals interested in Original Designs, Period Costumes, Goth and Elegant Gothic Lolita, Cosplay, Faerie Fashion, Fantasy, Sci-Fi etc., are welcome to join and discuss their costume plans and ask questions. If you re-created something from a cartoon, movie or television, or do Fruits and Fetish/Clubwear costumes, those are also acceptable. However, there's a catch: Your costume MUST be something you made in some way, as in at least 60% of it. Even if you had help or it was a group effort, the poster must be a part of the creation process. The more DIY, the better!
What is ok to post:
• Questions/Opinions about something you made or are about to make: HOWEVER, be prepared to recieve constructive criticism, we're all here to improve our skills and someone who pats you on the back all the time isn't going to be of any use to you.
• Constructive Criticism: But please, KNOW THE DIFFERENCE!
- Good example: I think that maybe you need to hem that skirt, it would make it look more polished.
- Bad example: OMG u r liek so teh UGLY!!!!! You suck. And your feet stink. Go home and die. Now.
Some people may be novice sewers/costumers, and some are more seasoned. We want everyone to feel welcome. Like I said, if you're here then you're in it to improve and learn, but bashing people is just nasty and doesn't accomplish anything.
• Sewing and Costume-craft related questions. Why is my Singer making that funny noise?...
• Tips and Tricks Have some interesting techniques to share? Please do! Tutorials are great. Opinions on what brand of sewing machine or costume making supplies are the best/worst are also acceptable.
• Anything related to costume construction and accessories or where to purchase them, such as wigs, fake hair, fabric purchasing, props, prop weapons, etc, are ok.
• Customer Feedback: We're all consumers and have a right to know about companies and commissioners. If you've had a really great or really crappy deal with a retailer or individual, then we as consumers have a right to know. Please post this in a CALM and MATURE fashion about your experience if you've had a hard time. If you know a great place to buy fabric or someplace having a special sale, then please share!
• Events and Promotions Related to Costuming: This includes conventions, faires, club promos, gallery exhibitions and fashion shows related to costuming and/or costume design.
Other Guidelines:
• I'm not gonna be a Puritan Nazi or anything. Your costumes can be skimpy or seductive, but NO porn please. There are other communities for that.
• Selling: If this community gets spammed each day with people selling things, then I will ban it altogether. For right now, you can post ONE sale per week of something that you made as a costume or costume accessory you made/purchased. We don't want tons of sales clogging up our friends' pages, there are good communities like cosplay_market that are for selling costumes and supplies.
• Photography or Modeling of your work: Photos or your work are welcome, but please use LJ-cut for all pictures!!!!!
