In his defence, it is someone presumed dead.

"Irene?"

"I'm sorry, Dr Watson. I didn't-- I didn't realize--" Her eyes are wide, her voice full of panic, more genuine emotion than he's ever seen from her. This is enough to almost settle the bitter taste in the back of his throat. Almost.

And she shakes her head, mouth a tight line. "I'm so sorry."

"You're not dead." He finds his voice then, finds the embarrassed shame of hurt and hope turning into anger, burning through him like life. He remembers the rage he felt when this happened the last time, at the power station, and he realizes, suddenly, that he's shaking with it, with rage. “Again."

"Yes," her hands are splayed open, like placating a wild animal.

"You were dead. Mycroft said--"

"We let him think that. Sherlock …" she trails off, smiles, her eyes bright. It makes her look young and softer around the edges. “He saved me. I was about to be executed and then: Sherlock appeared. Out of thin air. Like it was a trick. Just a magic trick."

"He didn't tell me."

"I know. I'm sorry for that, too." She shakes her head again, lips curling now in a small, sardonic smile. He feels a pang of sympathy, unbidden, because that's what he was always reduced to: apologising for Sherlock's messes, successes and failures both.

He pushes that thought and the prickling in his eyes aside, forces a calmness to his voice that doesn't go all the way to his fingers. "Why are you here?"

"It's what people do, don't they?" She looks at him, calm and unblinking. Unnerving to a point that makes him flinch. "Offer condolences."

He nods and attempts a smile, probably ending somewhere clownish and terrible. "Tea?"

"Yes, please."

She takes hers black. He adds extra sugar to his, just so he can stir it and cover the shake in his hands. He holds the spoon a little too hard.

They drink their teas quietly for a moment.

Then: "I work for Mr Holmes now."

"For Mycroft?" John can't disguise the incredulity in his voice. She looks down. His mind flashes to the last time he saw Mycroft: nose bleeding, at the cemetery. He flexes his fingers in a ghost ache.

"I owe ... I owe Sherlock my life. The least I can do is help clear his name."

"What does it matter? He's dead."

"It matters to you. It matters to everyone he ever helped. It matters."

He smiles. The warmth he feels in his chest has little to do with hot water and Tetley's but he plays it off.

"Feels guilty, does he?"

She nods, some fleeting emotion crossing her face. "It's not my place to speak on his behalf - and I don't wish to - but you need to forgive him."

“This is what Mycroft has you do, plea for my forgiveness? What does it matter?"

“Not Mycroft; Sherlock."

“No." He shakes his head. “I can't. Not ... not yet."

“Ok. That's fine. Just know that you can," she says, and suddenly he's so tired he can barely breathe.

He doesn't realize his face is wet until Irene reaches towards to touch him. He pulls away with a start, wipes at his own face. And it's only then that he remembers. "What you do - what you did - you were good at it because you know how to read people. Give them what they want."

"What they need."

"What do I need?"

"A reason to get up in the morning?"

"Good. Just Sherlock, who made John watch everything as it happened, made John a witness to his death.

The silence between them stretches and she just watches him with careful eyes, noting his every move, nothing like his therapist. He hates her, just a little bit.

“It isn't the same," she says, finally, getting up. “He wasn't just a friend."

“No. He wasn't."

She pulls her coat on and offers him her hand. He stares at it for a moment but grips it. Her handshake is firm, nothing soft about it.

"I am sorry," she says. "For everything. Not when he was in prison, not when his girlfriend died, not when he was in prison the second time, not when he almost killed a man. None of these things count as the bottom, apparently.

He hasn't changed is any significant way or even learned anything in the two/three years he's been with the FBI now.

And then he and his equally amoral - perhaps a little less amoral, actually, because Mozzie never claimed to be anything other than what he is while Neal pretends at playing a good guy for Peter's benefit on a daily basis - BFF found a shipful of Nazi treasure. And didn't pay even a moment's consideration as to who the rightful owners were, that it belongs in a museum, maybe, instead of two amoral jerks. That whole thing.

And there's always some suspension of belief for the sake of drama, regarding characterization and cons and plot-lines and, you know, whatever. And yet again the looted nazi treasure because none of the writing staff seemed to have any moral issues regarding that, either.

But this week, they do something that even I have trouble reconciling as any kind of believable thing of television: Mozzie has sexual relations. with a lady. Now, let's talk about Suits. This is a show about emotionally distant hotass lawyer Harvey and how he falls head over the heels for young but brilliant screw-up Mike and somehow decides to My Fair Lady Mike, so he will be a hotass lawyer with him. On their journey together, Harvey learns to have feeeeeeeelings and Mike learns how to be awesome like Harvey.

- It is an awesome show.

- Mostly it's a show about Harvey being hilarious and hotass. Seriously. Gabriel Macht is like you took s1 Heroes Adrian Pasdar, mixed in some Don Draper and every other hot dude in the universe and made handsome soup. I want to go to there. (I was going to continue with the soup metaphor but it would have gone a bit graphic and/or gross in the next sentence.)

- Ok, so the show is really about Mike. Mike has eidetic memory and through a lifetime of terrible decisions, tragically losing his parents and being raised by his elderly nana and a horrible best friend (this is what happens to geniuses who don't have Gusses to look out for them!), he's a loser who takes exams for other people. While couriering a case of drugs (for his Terrible Best Friend!) to what ends up being a police sting, he happens upon Harvey interviewing Harvard douchebags for a new associate position at his firm. Mike did pass the bar that one time and - like I said - Harvey kind of falls in love with him, so he becomes Harvey's associate. But being a lawyer, especially is a fake-lawyer, is really hard work, so wackiness, shenanigans and slashy goodness ensues.

- If Mike is a very, very, very good boy, he may get a fist bump, as evidenced here:

That is also how I will feel about you if you watch the show.

- Also, Gina Torres is on this show, being Harvey's own, uh, Harvey. She is their boss and also very, very attractive and smart.

- You know, truth is that I might not even need the slash for this show. It is tangible, basically, so I like it very much, but it hits the emotional kinks I very much enjoy. Harvey is a secret carer! Mike is a woobie! Together they make sweet, sweet lov-- no, ok, apparently I cannot separate the two.

What I'm trying to say is: I LOVE THIS SHOW AND THIS NEEDS TO BE A GIANT FANDOM NOW.

4. Torchwood is back!

- Gosh, there's lighting and money in this production. Yay!

- I didn't know I had missed Captain Jack Harkness as much as I did until he was there, getting his hello/flirt on. My god, Jack Harkness, you are the best. (By the time this season is over, I will also have said: "my god, Jack Harkness, you are the worst" because our Captain Jack is always the best and the worst.

- Esther is adorable. Gwen, the responsible parent, puts earmuff things on her baby so she can better shoot a giant gun next to her. Awwww! ♥

- I am not feeling the Mekhi character yet. Rex seems very ... brash and rash and car crash in action. I do like the idea of Jack not being in charge and working under somebody else. I assume Rex is less of a dick - or more of an entertaining dick - when he's not completely on drugs / in terrible pain. He is a smart one, having figured out that he's probably going to die when everything is back to normal.

- I am liking the Lady Doctor. She's awesome.

- Jack, please don't ever die. Even if you can. You're not allowed. Not ever. Or The Doctor will be really, really sad.

- Bill Pullman is apparently a really good actor because there's not even a trace of the President in him. And he's just so creeptastic. Because of course Amy's a ganger.

The Doctor is such a jerk. The Doctors. I knew they'd pull a switcheroo, because of course they would.
