Twenty Twenty-Five’s default Archive template uses the Post Content block, which block themes prioritize over PHP filters, making excerpts tricky without manual edits.

Restoring the function of the setting would probably be helpful.

I've created instructions to display excerpts instead of full text.

Hi and welcome to WordPress Core Trac!

The Excerpts option in Reading Settings is for each post in a feed (rss_use_excerpt), not how the post appears on an archive page.

The procedure in Step 2, replacing the Content block with an Excerpt block in the Site Editor, should be better than using filters.

Thank you. I'll look into it.

I just built a new site with tons of posts in twenty twenty four, instead of twenty twenty five.

Last year's theme makes it simple to remove the "Category:" and manages the post archive pages a lot better, out of the box.

:)
