This work explores the connection of cybernetics with library science and documentation in the co... more This work explores the connection of cybernetics with library science and documentation in the constitution of information science in the United States of America. For this, Wiebe Bijker's concept of technological framework is applied, which is defined as concepts and techniques used by a community to solve its problems. This concept facilitates defining technical traditions, identifying continuities and ruptures, as well as exchanges in a complex field. The technological frameworks of library science and documentation, pre-existing to the constitution of information science, are drawn to identify techniques and concepts that are later taken up by information science in a third technological framework. Information science is constituted to facilitate access to the results of science and technology and redefined access to the cultural record in cybernetic terms. Librarianship adopted cybernetics early and incorporated the new information scientists to library schools from 1955 on. Among the products of the new information science, the constitution of bibliographic control, authority control and the concept of information are traced.

The Plate Archive of the Cordoba Observatory includes 20.000 photographs and spectra on glass pla... more The Plate Archive of the Cordoba Observatory includes 20.000 photographs and spectra on glass plates dating from 1893 to 1983. This contribution describes the work performed since the plate archive was transferred to the Observatory Library in 2011. In 2014 an interdisciplinary team was assembled and a research grant from the National University of Cordoba was obtained with the objectives of preserving the glass plates and generate public access for astronomers and other audiences. The preservation work not only includes practical intervention to improve conservation conditions for the whole archive, but also a diagnose of the preservation conditions for the plates and identification of best practices for cleaning the plates. The access envisioned through digitization requires not only the scanning of all the plates, but also careful definition and provision of metadata. In this regard, each institutional level involved-in this case: archive, library, astronomical observatory and public university-demands and provides different bibliographic practices, involving multiple standards of description and coding.
This document offers advances of the project "Recovery, valorization and dissemination of th... more This document offers advances of the project "Recovery, valorization and dissemination of the heritage ot the Astronomical Photographic Plates Archive of the Astronomical Observatory of Cordoba. Preventive conservation, process analysis of digitization and metadata construction. First phase". The archive contains about 20.000 photographs and spectra on glass plates, a product of the scientific work of the Observatory. In 2011 the archive was transferred to the Observatory Library and actions for preservation and access through digitization and description of the material started. Each institutional level this includes -archive, library, astronomical observatory and public university- provides different bibliographic practices and models, and involve multiple description and coding rules and standards.

De esta manera logramos terminar el ano y nuestros alumnos obtuvieron una vision de conjunto ya, que si bien se hacia enfasis en los procesos tecnicos, tambien se aplicaron los conocimientos adquiridos en todas las materias pero con diferente grado de complejidad, permitiendo asi una mayor practica y ademas les permitio tomar contacto con una realidad que hasta ese momento les era ajena. El presente trabajo explora las dinámicas socio-técnicas vinculadas a la automatización de las bi... more El presente trabajo explora las dinámicas socio-técnicas vinculadas a la automatización de las bibliotecas de la Universidad Nacional de Córdoba (UNC) y su Sistema de Bibliotecas e Información (SISBI) en el período 1985 - 1996. El SISBI impulsó la automatización de procesos bibliotecarios con medidas como la compra centralizada de revistas y la implementación del software CDS/Isis (Microisis). También estuvo a cargo de la administración de becas de pregrado para estudiantes de bibliotecología que, en muchos casos aportaron a la automatización de los catálogos bibliotecarios. Durante esta década se generaron dinámicas de innovación tecnológica en el ámbito de las bibliotecas con consecuencias no solamente al interior de la UNC sino que, a través de la Red Nacional de Bibliotecas Universitarias irradiaron a otras universidades públicas argentinas. The management of photographic archives presents special challenges compared to textual documents... more The management of photographic archives presents special challenges compared to textual documents. Beyond the specific requirements regarding the organization and preservation of photographic documents, the automated management of photographic archives must take into account different aspects. Firstly, the fact that it is a visual medium - photography - requires search and navigation systems for the user that integrate not only the image of photography but also fields of visual description. Photographic archives are also presented on a variety of supports, each of them with their specific requirements in terms of preservation and handling. This information, although not necessarily required by the end users, is essential for the archivist for whom the computer system must be able to report on existing versions of the document and the interventions made on them. Finally the representation of the context in automated systems, requires the linking of the photographic document with other entities, such as people, entities or documents with which it relates. The present contribution relates the process of selection and test of AtoM (version 2 of the Ica-Atom software), Koha, Dspace and Omeka computer systems for the management and accessibility of the Plate Archive of the Astronomical Observatory of Cordoba.

In this regard they chose a pragmatic approach, organized around three main interrelated themes: people, resources and institutionality, which enabled to re-define the course of the library, inserted it into the institutional project providing specific value and generating the necessary impact to ensure the future of the library next to the Astronomical Observatory of Cordoba.
Starting from the experience of the Puntobiblio network who build a union catalog of libraries of... more Starting from the experience of the Puntobiblio network who build a union catalog of libraries of different types: public/popular, school, special, and others, the argentinean Comision Nacional Protectora de Bibliotecas Populares (Conabip), asked Veronica Lencinas, the technical manager of the project and the IT specialist Pablo Bianchi to present a project to implement a new integrated library system since the old Sigebi system had become obsolet. Once approved the new system, now called Digibepe -Koha pre-configured to the needs of popular libraries- was implemented and part of the work was the migration and reformat of library data that was not in the Marc 21 format. The migracion not only includes Sigebi-records but also those from Aguapey, Winisis, Trooya, Pergamo, Catalis, OpenMarcoPolo, and other systems based mostly on MS Excel, Clipper, FoxPro and MS Access. This contribution describes strategies and techniques used in various data migrations to the Marc21 format as implemented Digibepe system (Koha).

Bajo esta premisa el Museo de Antropología pretende unificar bajo un mismo lenguaje documental todas sus colecciones de objetos culturales, archivo y biblioteca.
La presente experiencia da cuenta del trabajo que realizaron los alumnos de Procesos Técnicos III de la Escuela de Bibliotecología de la UNC pertenecientes al año 2013. El mismo cosiste en una continuación de la carga de metadatos realizado el año anterior, también por alumnos de Procesos Técnicos III, sobre el sistema informático DSpace el cual da soporte al Repositorio Institucional de la Universidad.
