« Cultural procreation: Between media and mediators »
Lecture by Prof. dr. Joep Leerssen (University of Amsterdam)

1st of March 2013

You are cordially invited to attend a lecture by Prof. dr. Joep Leerssen entitled « Cultural procreation: Between media and mediators ». This lecture is organized within the framework of the interdisciplinary project Customs officers or smugglers? – the mediating role of intercultural actors within Belgium and between Belgium and France (1850-1930).

Prof. Joep Leerssen, Academy Professor of Modern European Literature at the University of Amsterdam and Spinoza Prize in 2008, will share his expertise on cultural relations in national peripheries and border areas in order to give a perspective on European cultural mediators in the 19th century. From a ‘viral dissemination model’, he will reflect on how cultural expression can procreate from field/medium to field/medium, and from linguistic community to linguistic community.

The event will take place on the 1st of March 2013, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, in Justus Lipsiuszaal, Lett 08.16 (Erasmusgebouw, Blijde Inkomststraat 21, Leuven), Entrance is free but registration is required (via an e-mail to [email protected]). The language of the lecture is English.

Organisation: Prof. Dr. Reine Meylaerts, Prof. Dr. Lieven D’hulst, Prof. Dr. Tom Verschaffel, Maud Gonne, Tessa Lobbes and Karen Vandemeulebroucke
