It supports assessments and analysis of portfolios owned by the insurance industry, financial solvency, macro-prudential efforts and also monitors and analyzes developments and trends in the financial markets.

The Financial Regulatory Affairs Division provides an array of technical advisory, administrative and operational services to state financial regulators to help ensure insurer financial solvency and stability in insurance markets. The Division provides these services in the areas of: Insurance Department Accreditation, Statutory Accounting & Reporting, Financial & Life Actuarial Analysis, Reinsurance, Receiverships, Company Licensing, Alien Surplus Lines Insurers, Financial Data Quality Assurance, and Investment Securities Research & Analysis.

The Financial Regulatory Policy & Data Department provides subject matter expertise and business analyst support to internal and external users of the Financial Data Repository system (aka the FDR database) and co-lead the business and data governance efforts in our new Enterprise Data Platform along with the Market Analysis Team/Market Regulation Department.

The Financial Regulatory Services Department provides a wide array of support to state insurance solvency regulators (and the industry where appropriate), including but not limited to technical advice, training and assistance in maintaining and improving accounting, reporting, examination, analysis and risk-based capital processes, all designed to help protect the solvency of the insurance industry. The Department also provides support to the NAIC Accreditation Program and principle-based reserving framework.

The Government Affairs division coordinates the NAIC’s ongoing work with state, federal, and foreign government officials on legislative and regulatory policy. Its role is to help develop, coordinate, and implement the NAIC’s domestic and international policy and outreach initiatives.

The Market Regulation offers expertise in market regulation and the NAIC’s Market Information Systems. It supports commissioners in maintaining consumer confidence in the insurance industry by ensuring companies and producers operate legally and fairly.

The NAIC Meetings, Events, and Travel Services offers logistical support for coordinating and executing NAIC-sponsored programs and events. This support extends to Members, Regulator Staff, and internal NAIC, NIPR, and IIPRC staff. The team also coordinates travel arrangements with our travel agency partner and other vendors for both internal and external clients.

The Securities Valuation Office (SVO) is responsible for the daily credit quality assessment of securities held by state-regulated insurance companies. These companies report their securities ownership to the Capital Markets and Investment Analysis Office when the securities are eligible for filing on Schedule D, DA, or BA of the NAIC Financial Statement Blank.

The Structured Securities Group (SSG) is tasked with analyzing Residential Mortgage-Backed Securities (RMBS) and Commercial Mortgage-Backed Securities (CMBS) owned by state-regulated insurance companies, in accordance with Statement of Statutory Accounting Principles No. 43 Revised - Loan-Backed and Structured Securities.
