Welcome to Complex-ish

Hi there — it’s nice to meet you!

My name is Kristin and have over 15 years of experience in cybersecurity, software engineering, and applied research. Today, I work at the intersection of AI, big data, and complex systems. I care about building secure, resilient technology that actually makes sense. I also ask a lot of questions. This blog is where I explore the answers.

If you’ve ever tried to explain what you actually do in cybersecurity, AI, or data infrastructure and ended up sounding like you were describing a conspiracy theory, welcome. You’re in the right place. Security practitioners are (by-nature) a paranoid bunch.

(…or maybe that’s just me. Moving on…)

Complexish is for the systems thinkers, the threat modelers, the builders, the analysts, and the endlessly curious people who live at the intersection of messy problems and modern technology. Here, I make an attempt to break down big topics into digestible ideas with just the right amount of chaos.

This publication is:

  • Technically grounded (but jargon-light)
  • Serious about ideas, not self-importance
  • A place to explore, not just declare

Over the next few months, I’ll be writing about everything from Zero Trust strategies and adversarial machine learning to emergence in digital systems and real-time data architectures. If you care about how things work (or break), and how to design for resilience instead of control, you’ll probably feel at home here.

Complex doesn’t have to be incomprehensible. It’s Complex-ish.

Thanks for being here. Let’s get into it.
