A pointer, usually a hand, emanating from or pointing towards a caption box that serves to highlight part of the narrative or add to it, although it is not literally part of the narrative.
Also known as “caption hands”. Manicules were first used as marks in the margins of manuscripts, which then evolved into a functional, typographic device used in illustration, advertising and now, comics. Manicules can be drawn in a variety of forms, not just hands.
