
Paulo Santos
(in May 2024) Associate Professor at Department of Civil Engineering (DEC) of the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Coimbra (FCTUC), Portugal. Research member of the Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering (ISISE), Functional Performance (FP) research group.
Between 1995 and 1998 he taught at the School of Technology, Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco various disciplines of the Bachelor course in Civil Engineering. Since 1998 he has taught courses in undergraduate classes (pre-Bologna) and integrated Masters (post-Bologna) in Civil Engineering in the DEC / FCTUC. Was responsible for several classes in the courses: MSc (pre-Bologna) in Construction Science, as well as master's / doctoral program on Steel and Composite Construction FCTUC. He was part of the international teaching staff of the European Erasmus Mundus Master (520121-1-2011-1-CZ-ERA-MUNDUS EMMC) Sustainability of Constructions and several integrated courses in "Advanced Education in SUSTAINABLE STEEL CONSTRUCTION" (Coimbra (PT) 2011, Luxembourg (LX) 2012, Malmo (SE) 2014, Hämeenlinna (FI) 2014 and 2017) being responsible for teaching the "Part C - Thermal Behaviour and Energy Efficiency in Buildings".
The main actual research topics are Thermal Behaviour, Energy Efficiency in Buildings and Sustainable Construction, with main focus on the Lightweight Steel-Framed (LSF) construction system and sustainable construction materials. As a result of his research work he is author of around 200 publications, among 4 books, 2 dissertations, 4 book editions, 15 journal special editions, 3 book chapters, 70 articles published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, and 107 papers published in proceedings of scientific conferences, being 81 publications indexed and listed in the Web of Science Core Collection.
He has around 2,900 citations and 80,000 reads on Research Gate (Berlin), with a h-index of 26. He reviewed, by request of the editors, around 125 articles submitted to international journals. He was also a member of the scientific evaluation committee of several national and international research projects proposed for funding.
Participated in more than a dozen consultancy work undertaken in ISISE, ACIV and Constructions Laboratory DEC-FCTUC. He is a member of the Portuguese Order of Engineers. Furthermore, he is a member of the international technical committee TC14/ECCS - "Sustainability & Eco-efficiency of Steel Construction" and of the COST Action CA21103: CircularB - Implementation of Circular Economy in the Built Environment.
