10 Pilots to address the challenges of collaboration<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

COESO\u2019s \u201cuse cases\u201d strive to update the practices of Citizen Science in the social sciences and humanities. Ten case studies reporting on specific challenges will feed the project<\/strong>: five of them began at the beginning of the project in January 2021, while the other five were chosen through an Open Call process and chosen in May 2022. Each pilot presents a distinct type and model of interaction between different kinds of stakeholders, addressing specific societal issues. This diversity will generate knowledge on different challenges found within participatory citizen science in the social sciences and humanities research fields<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pilot 9: Playful Futures: sci-fi Live Action Role Play ethnography for Mediterranean coastal communities. <\/a>Raising awareness about climate change through gaming activities in Croatian coastal communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pilot 8: Women Water Watch (wWw)<\/a>. Mapping water quality from the river to the glass in Tanzania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pilot 7: Ageing in a Caring Community (AGORAge)<\/a>. Fostering the societal value of ageing people in an Italian community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pilot 6: Digital Mapping with Disabled Citizens in Germany (<\/a>DiMDiCi)<\/a>. Engaging a group of people with disabilities in the co-design of an inclusive digital collaborative mapping tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pilot 5: Growing migrant knowledge: Contemporary and historical perspectives<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The social issue:<\/strong> All children should be given the opportunity to develop good (healthy and sustainable) dietary habits from an early age, as this has an impact on their (future) health. Unfortunately, this is not currently the case. So far, there are no official data available on children\u2019s food insecurity in Flanders\/Belgium nor in many other EU countries. This project aimed to provide knowledge on the nutritional quality and environmental sustainability of children\u2019s packed lunch-boxes, including insight into the nutritionally \u2018empty\u2019 lunch-boxes as an indicator of food security among children. The results of this project give rise to the setting up of targeted actions and substantiated policy recommendations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CitizenScience based research project: <\/strong>Researchers from Ghent University<\/a> and professionals from Flemish Institute of Healthy Living<\/a> (public health organisation), Rikolto Belgium<\/a> (non-profit organisation) and Let Us<\/a>\u00a0 (social entrepreneur) worked together to carry out a large scale measurement of children’s (6-12 years old) packed lunch-boxes by developing a creative and inclusive methodology. The elaboration of this inclusive research methodology took into account the sensitivity and stigma that comes with measuring lunch-boxes from vulnerable children including children with a lower socio-economic, immigrant or refugee background. The children, parents and teachers co-developed the research methodology after which a representative sample of children was asked to register their packed lunch-boxes using the chosen methodology. The results of this action provided parents, schools, and governments with insight into the content and composition of lunch-boxes and can serve as a\u00a0 basis for developing impactful actions in follow-up projects regarding food insecurity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
