The CoA+A brings the arts and design together in an educational forum that is unique in the Carolinas and rare in the United States. Nearly 1000 students work across five creative disciplines: art and art history, architecture, dance, music and theatre.

The UNC Charlotte College of Arts + Architecture is a community of curious individuals and skilled problem solvers who care about the impact of our work. Through education, expertise and leadership, the College models excellence in teaching, scholarly and creative research, and performance in five creative disciplines: architecture, art and art history, dance, music and theatre. In the CoA+A, we prepare students for a lifetime of thoughtful and creative action.

Marideth Telenko ‘20, B.A. in Dance with a concentration in Performance, Choreography and Theory, is a professional dancer/choreographer and half of the viral dance duo @cost_n_mayor with over 7.5M TikTok followers! Her recent projects include producing and performing in the off-Broadway production “11 to Midnight,” going on tour with Pentatonix and dancing in major campaigns for NBC, Target, Amazon Prime, Disney and many more.

Jeremy W. Foil ’05, B.A. in Theatre and Dance, is an art director for films, TV and Broadway. His extraordinary list of credits includes “Marty Supreme” (Oscar Nomination), “Love Story: John F. Kennedy & Carolyn Bessette,” “Fallout” (Art Directors Guild Award), “American Horror Story: Delicate, Gossip Girl” (HBO) and “Fosse/Verdon” (Art Directors Guild nomination). He has also contributed as associate set designer to Broadway productions such as “The Mystery of Edwin Drood” (Tony Nomination), “Honeymoon in Vegas” and “School of Rock The Musical” (London, Australia, China and Korea).

Kalin Devone ‘15, B.F.A. in Art with a concentration in Painting, is a working artist in Charlotte who has created murals across the city and receives commissioned orders for paintings. Her recent projects include working with PUMA and Footlocker to debut Charlotte Hornets star LaMelo Ball’s new clothing release, creating a painting for Charlotte FC commemorating Juneteenth and other commissions for T-Mobile, F1 Las Vegas, Michael’s, Harris Teeter, Procter & Gamble, Fifth Third Bank, Whiteclaw and many more. She also received a 2026 “10 Under Ten” Award from the UNC Charlotte GOLD Alumni Network.

Alaa Bou Ghanem ’18 and ’20, Master of Architecture and B.A. in Architecture, is a Lebanese-American architect born and raised in the small town of Ramleh. As one of the first IPAL students, Alaa worked with the renowned company, Little Diversified Architectural Consulting, for five years before becoming the CEO and founder of his own successful architecture firm, AB Group. While at Little Diversified Architectural Consulting, he worked on projects for the National Museum of Korean Literature and Silicon Valley’s SPARK, among many more.

Emily Golden ’22, B.M. with a concentration in Instrumental Music Education (K-12), is the Director of Bands at East Burke High School in Connelly Springs, NC and the Youth Symphony Conductor for the Western Piedmont Symphony. In 2024, she was a quarter-finalist for the 2024 Music Educator ​GRAMMY Awards, established to recognize current educators (kindergarten through college, public and private schools) who have made a significant and lasting contribution to the field of music education.

UNC Charlotte Departments of Music and Dance presented Nouveau Now, a program of stunning choreography set to live music, March 28 and 29, 2026 at the gloriously restored 1927 Carolina Theatre in uptown Charlotte. We are proud of our students taking the stage in the heart of the city!

The UNC Charlotte Jazz Ensemble, directed by Will Campbell, journeyed uptown to present a night of swinging Sinatra tunes at the Booth Playhouse in the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center!

Architecture students test energy-efficient design in the city

In a partnership with the Innovation Barn in Uptown Charlotte, Professor of Architecture Kyoung-Hee Kim and her students are developing a window system that uses microalgae to make buildings more energy-efficient.

CoA+A students are uniquely positioned to take advantage of the bustling cultural landscape of our growing city. Each semester, students work with renowned museums, galleries, arts organizations, design firms, and architecture firms in uptown Charlotte.
