Canadian Mental Health Association Vernon & District held a successful Coldest Night of the Year walk Feb. 28.

About $30,000 was raised by more than 160 participants for the North Okanagan Rent Bank.

“We are incredibly grateful for the strong community support for Coldest Night of the Year and housing stability. It was inspiring to see so many people wanting to ensure their neighbours and friends have a roof over their heads and are able to overcome financial emergencies that may threaten their ability to pay rent,” said Julia Payson, CMHA Vernon executive director.

“When an unexpected expense arises, such as vehicle repairs or clothes for the kids, the North Okanagan Rent Bank plays a vital role in providing short-term, interest free loans. It provides families and individuals, including many seniors, with much-needed resources while not having to worry about eviction.”

CMHA continues to seek community support for the North Okanagan Rent Bank and donations can be made at cmhavernon.ca.

The North Okanagan Rent Bank serves Grindrod, Enderby, Spallumcheen, Armstrong, Vernon, Coldstream, Lumby and Cherryville.
