Laying the foundation for digital learning
Previously, finding a simple SOP could take many steps. With an AI assistant powered by Google Cloud, our staff can now ask a question and receive a clear summary, along with the steps to follow.

Sampoerna Schools System runs seven K-12 schools, a university, and school development outreach program across Indonesia. Over the past 10 years, it has grown from just 30 students to more than 3,000 while also training teachers nationwide through its school development outreach program.
But growth brought challenges. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), policies, and internal documents were stored in many different places, which meant employees had to click through multiple folders to find simple instructions, such as how to create a new email account or process a request. This slowed daily work and made the organization dependent on a few people who knew where everything was.
At the same time, Sampoerna Schools System needed a more affordable and flexible platform for its existing Learning Management System (LMS), Guru Binar, which supports teachers across Indonesia.
To solve both problems, Sampoerna turned to Google Cloud. Google Cloud offered:
- Flexibility to grow as the organization expanded
- Integration with familiar Google tools like Google Workspace and Google Classroom
- AI capabilities through Vertex AI, which could make search and data access faster and smarter
To support its lean IT team, the school partnered with Elitery to leverage the ready-to-use platform, Elipedia, built on Google Cloud. This saved time and removed the need for Sampoerna to source its own in-house developers to build a new tool.

Powered by AI with Google Cloud, Elipedia lets employees type or ask questions in natural language, just like they would when chatting online. They get instant answers, helping them deliver work much more quickly each day.
Together, these Google Cloud technologies make Elipedia fast, reliable, and secure. Google Vertex AI Search works like a smart librarian, instantly finding the right document or answer. Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) automatically scales resources to keep the system running smoothly, even during peak usage, while Google Cloud SQL safely stores and organizes all data in a central location.

Before Elipedia, staff had to click through as many as ten folders just to find a single SOP. Now, they simply type a question — like how to request a CCTV recording — and the AI instantly provides a summary and step-by-step guide.
The system also updates automatically, while a chatbot handles routine questions — freeing Sampoerna's 25-person IT team to focus on planning and improving its systems.
Scaling teacher learning with Google Cloud
Sampoerna also moved its Guru Binar platform to Google Cloud. Guru Binar is a platform for teacher career development through training and various holistic, integrated, and systematic professional development programs. Its goal is to enhance access to teacher training through structured and measurable programs, enabling participants to learn anytime, anywhere online (self-paced learning). With Google Cloud, Guru Binar is now:
- Easier to use with Google Workspace single sign-on
- More reliable and scalable, so it can reach more teachers
- Ready for future AI features, like smarter content suggestions and automated certificates
The platform now supports 90,000 teachers nationwide, including those in rural areas, helping Sampoerna continue its mission to improve education quality across Indonesia.

Sampoerna's next step is to bring AI directly into the classroom. The team plans to implement Gemini for Education, a new Google Classroom feature that helps teachers and students use AI to learn and create.
The education system in Indonesia is aligning with global trends by integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into the national curriculum. From the next academic year, Indonesian primary and secondary schools would start rolling out AI and coding as elective subjects for students. To prepare, Sampoerna is working with Google to make sure teachers and students are ready for this change.
In addition, Sampoerna plans to explore Vertex AI capabilities within Guru Binar, so teachers can use AI tools to improve their lessons and overall learning experience.
