O presente artigo analisa a obra A Gorda (2016) da escritora portuguesa Isabela Figueiredo. Propo... more O presente artigo analisa a obra A Gorda (2016) da escritora portuguesa Isabela Figueiredo. Proponho que a narrativa em causa questionae, em última instância, subvertea ideia do corpo feminino enquanto objeto de consumo decretada por uma sociedade na qual a aparência física constitui um dos marcadores identitários fundamentais do sujeito. Defendo igualmente que A Gorda expõe uma sociedade ocidental que, ao ser predominantemente gordofóbica, sentencia o corpo gordo da mulher ao que apelido de corpo-fracasso. Por fim, advogo que o romance analisado se revela um marco incontornável da literatura portuguesa contemporânea, na medida em que alerta o leitor no sentido de uma valorização do indivíduo para além dos estereótipos (castradores) de beleza vigentes, contribuindo assim para uma disrupção da ordem hegemónica patriarcal, em particular das suas narrativas (violentas) sobre o corpo gordo da mulher. This article analyzes the work A Gorda (2016), by the Portuguese writer Isabela Figueiredo. I propose that Figueiredo's novel questionsand ultimately subvertsthe idea of the female body as an object of consumption decreed by a society in which physical appearance constitutes one of the fundamental identity markers of the subject. I also argue that A Gorda exposes a western society that, by being predominantly fatphobic, sentences the woman's fat body to what I call failure-body. Finally, I claim that the analyzed novel proves to be a landmark of contemporary Portuguese literature, insofar as it alerts the reader to an appreciation of the indiviidual beyond the prevailing (castrating) beauty stereotypes, thus contributing to a disruption of the patriarchal hegemonic order, particularly its (violent) narratives about the female fat body.

Resumo: A obra saramaguiana foi magistral em evocar e/ou provocar o passado e os seus discursos c... more Resumo: A obra saramaguiana foi magistral em evocar e/ou provocar o passado e os seus discursos cristalizados, sendo O evangelho segundo Jesus Cristo (1991) um ilustre exemplo. Neste artigo, revisito este romance de José Saramago de forma a argumentar que a obra em causa mobiliza uma profanação das figuras bíblicas ao nível lexical. Mais especificamente, e à luz do conceito de profanação de Agamben (2007), proponho que o narrador e as personagens, através das suas escolhas lexicais, operacionalizem um processo de restituição de determinadas palavras a um uso que até então lhes estava vedado, não só pela própria tessitura dos evangelhos canónicos como também pelas leituras historicamente construídas desses mesmos textos, o que, em última instância, concorre para um esboroamento da fronteira entre o sagrado e o profano.

This article aims to analyze Esse cabelo (2015), Djaimilia Pereira de Almeida's first novel, whic... more This article aims to analyze Esse cabelo (2015), Djaimilia Pereira de Almeida's first novel, which addresses the (dis)integration of the African and the Afro-descendant in post-25 de Abril Portugal. I claim that Esse cabelo reflects with great acumen on the legacies of Coloniality that permeate Portuguese contemporary society, questioning very particularly the survival of old colonial logics of racialization and the ways these are inscribed discursively in the body. Ultimately, I argue that this novel plays a transformative role inasmuch as it contributes significantly to the formation of postcolonial identities that look at the past without erasures and that request from the present decolonial representations of the Portuguese (post)-colonial body.
