Niels O Schiller

I received my MA from Trier University (Germany) in 1994 and my PhD from the Radboud University (Nijmegen, The Netherlands) in 1997. I was awarded a scholarship from the German Max Planck Society to carry out my PhD project about the role of the syllable in lexical access during speech production at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen, The Netherlands. In 1998, I received an award, the Otto-Hahn-Medaille, from the Max-Planck-Society for my dissertation.After completion of my PhD project, I became affiliated as a post-doctoral research fellow with the Cognitive Neuropsychology Laboratory of the Psychology Department at Harvard University (1998-2000). At Harvard, I gained experience in research on brain-damaged patients.After I returned from the US, I became a research scientist of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) in the Department of Cognitive Neuroscience of the Faculty of Psychology at Maastricht University and a senior researcher at the Max Planck Institute for Psycholinguistics (2000-2003). In 2002, I was awarded a VICI grant from the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) and in March 2004, I was appointed professor of psycholinguistics at Maastricht University. As of 2006, I am affiliated as professor of psycho- and neurolinguistics with the Leiden University Centre for Linguistics (LUCL) and the Leiden Institute for Brain and Cognition (LIBC) at Leiden University.From 2005 to 2010, I was a member of De Jonge Akademie (DJA
