Five different foreign bodies (metal, stone, glass, plastic and wood) were inserted separately in a freshly thawed cadaveric calf thigh muscle. Two different imaging modalities were applied, firstly, conventional plain radiography and secondly, ultrasonography. In general, metals, stones and glass were radiopaque. On the other hand, plastics and wooden objects could not be detected by conventional plain radiography. Meanwhile by ultrasound examination, all foreign bodies appeared as hyperechoic structure with distal artifacts. Reverberation artifacts (comet tail) appeared clearly with metal and glass materials. While, distal acoustic shadowing was obvious in stones, plastics and wooden objects. Ultrasound in this study proved to be brilliant for detection of radiolucent foreign bodies as plastic and wood. For radiopaque foreign bodies, ultrasound can provide more accurate localization and also the artifact distal to foreign bodies played an important role in detecting the nature and surface properties of these foreign bodies.

To identify the right person, relevant qualification and work experience are considered as primary determinants. In literature, the third determinant of the right person is the assessment of personality for finding a match with the nature of the job. However, in practice, personality assessment is complex. This study observed that in the IT industry of Islamabad, Pakistan personality assessment of candidates was omitted. This identified the gap in the practice, which led 30 % of the projects in the selected sample to failure. Focusing on the third determinant of the right person that is neglected in the selected industry, this study hypothesized that the right person for a job requires a personality that is compatible with the nature of the work/environment. It further hypothesized that project outcome is correlated with assigning its tasks to the right persons. Since January 2007 to May 2009, this study collected data about a s...

In the current era motivating the nation towards entrepreneurship is recommended to be a solution of unemployment. As adequate number of jobs both in government and private sectors are not being generated due to economic crisis in Pakistan, it is perceived that more entrepreneurial projects should mitigate the unemployment. Nevertheless, opting entrepreneurship is one solution, however the question arises is it a universal solution of unemployment for people of all classes in a nation? This conceptual cum empirical study contributes a critical view on the role of entrepreneurship in mitigating unemployment in Pakistan with the help of existing literature, expert’s opinions and logical analysis. The study concluded that although entrepreneurship is a solution for unemployment, but it is not universally applicable for all people in Pakistan. The study recommends that measures must be take...

Moreover, customers were demand more attention from their suppliers. The management of a project portfolio and the corresponding customers, supplier’s engagement signified a link between PPM and external stakeholder’s engagement. Supplier engagement in project portfolio management success had become an increasingly popular technique for improving project capability and project performance in PPM. By defining the range of PPM, this study hypothesized a connection between external stakeholders like customers and supplier’s engagement and project portfolio management success. The results were based on a cross-sectional sample of 100 well known Software Houses in Lahore, Pakistan. Study employed Pearson’s correlation and step wise hierarichal regression to find the results. Study found a significant relation...

Different features of automated software requirements management tools were critically reviewed. The underlying associations among software requirements management, software requirements traceability, changing requirements, using automated software requirements management tools and rework with PS were explored through a survey conducted among the software houses. This study found a lack of proficiency in automated SRM skills and practices among the software projects which caused rework in software development life cycle. This study is a novel contribution in exploring the role of automated software requirements management tools as an effective methodology for project success.

Re... more The current interest based economic system is predominantly governed by capitalistic approach. Repetitive crisis in prevalent financial system indicated its structural flaws demanding a more viable financial system. Serendipiciously Islamic Finance (IF) appeared as a viable alternate to capitalistic system. Though IF is one of the fastest growing sectors, however, currently it is focused on microeconomic contracts between IFIs and their clients. To capitalise on the inherent strengths of IF it is needed to encompass the overall economic system in compliance with Shariah principles. Taking this into account, this qualitative and conceptual study – methodologically and substantively analyses the prevalent currency management in general and with particular reference to Pakistan for contriving its Shariah compliant mechanism. In light of Quran, Sunnah, opinions of Shariah experts it applies induction and deduction while analyzing how the prevalent currency management as per M0 is devian...

Software project teams focus on various factors to achieve the predetermined PS criteria based on the nature of the project. Achieving the project milestones in terms of the triple constraints of iron triangle did not guarantee the PS. PS could never be guaranteed by doing the right work until & unless the stakeholder’s perception & vision is not converted into reality. This study contributed in exploring the various rework types & their impact on PS. This study contributed that magnitude of rework is dependent on total project completion duration & rework can be avoided in SDLC. The study analyzed the association between rework & PS. Major causes of unsuccessful projects in view of project team members were explored through a survey conducted in the software industry of Lahore Pakistan. .

As Islam prohibits both these both concepts, relevant literature was qualitatively probed to find Shariah compliant mechanism for setting future value of an asset being sold on credit negating Riba and Maysir . The study thus extracted a formula from authentic Shariah sources and presented it quantitatively as an alternate to abandon the conventional formulas of interest and speculation. It further contributed recommendations for credit sellers and buyers in the light of Shariah principles and possible future research.

Few studies, however, examine whether video adds to verbal information-sharing. We hypothesized that video augments script-only decision-making. Patients aged >65 years admitted to hospital wards were randomized to receive evidence-based information ("script") vs. script plus video of simulated CPR and intubation. Patients' decisions registered in the hospital record, by hospital discharge were compared for the two groups. Fifty script-only intervention patients averaging 77.7 years were compared to 50 script+video patients with a mean age of 74.7 years. Eleven of 50 (22%) in each group declined CPR; and an additional three (script) vs. four (script+video) refused intubation for respiratory failure. There were no differences in sex, self-reported health trajectory, functional limitations...

To ensure successful accomplishment of projects, quality performance of the project team is requi... more To ensure successful accomplishment of projects, quality performance of the project team is required to be maintained. The existing literature declares scope, time, cost and quality as quadruple constraints for project's success while management of human resource (HR) communication, procurement and risk are declared support functions. Literature further acknowledges that HR management functions are dealt with low precedence in actual practices of project management as they are rendered secondary or support functions. In real practices the project manager is delegated certain HR functions like team formation, training and HR performance management. However, these HR functions are not considered the primary tasks of the project manager during the project's life cycle as these are practiced for specific time period without regular iteration. From July 2007 to April 2009, this study discovered that in the Information Technology (IT) industry working in Islamabad, Pakistan, project managers were required to manage performance of their teams at least by monitoring their performance. It discovered that compromise in the quality of HR performance management affected the results of heterogeneous IT projects. The study therefore focused on HR performance management to identify its actual significance and precedence for the projects. It hypothesized that the outcome of project is associated with the quality of performance management of project team and is affected by it. Employing stratified sampling technique, 70 heterogeneous IT projects in 24 different software houses were identified and selected that were reported to have been affected by the quality of HR performance management. Using a reliable and valid instrument, data were collected in a cross sectional manner. Analyses of results were made using frequency distribution, Pearson correlation, and Partial Least Square (PLS) regression. The findings confirmed a correlation and dependency of project outcome on HR performance management by the project manager through quality of performance monitoring. The study concluded to consider HR management function performance management as one of the tools for ensuring project success giving its significant precedence. The study has contributed guidelines and templates to help project managers exercise 360 degree performance management where applicable.

Despite annual increase in pays, the low scaled government employees always get further compressed purchasing power. The problem resides in the tight differentials in the Basic Pay Scales. Annual pay raises are always announced as a percentage of basic pay for all scales resulting into inadequate increase in comparison with prevailing unleashed inflation for low paid employees. The major reason for increase in price of food basket is the oil price. Nevertheless, the tight differential in low scales demands optimization, remedial approach can be linking pay raises with oil prices, reducing unit production costs by increasing productivity to lower food prices, monetizing perks and privileges of top level managers etc.

Problem: The monetization of perks and benefits is not equally feasible and applicable in government organizations as it happens for private companies because it can oblige civil servants to be dependent on external service providers while they should be immune from such dependencies on public.Hypothesis: Monetization of perks for civil servants is not adoptable for all types of bureaucracy in Pakistan. Methodology: This is a qualitative study which analysed relevant rules, laws, ordinances, notifications, reports and ongoing necessary measures of Pakistani government's commissions for improving the compensation structure in the government departments especially of the senior civil servant using secondary data accessed from authentic sources. It employed deduction metho...
