Progress

I know that to a lot of people this photo won’t mean much. They’ll see a TR coach partially painted. It is, of course, the superb Fourdees print. This paint work isn’t amazing but I think it’s better than ‘it’ll do.’ So, why is it so important to me? Well, when I’d reached this point… Continue reading

On the workbench
Yes, the space to work with in terms of layout building isn’t ideal at the moment, but I’ve been able to get the lap tray out a few times since moving. Back in March, I bought the Fourdees Talyllyn coach 9 and 10 set. To get all ‘Carry On…’ with you, what a pair of… Continue reading

That was the week that was…
Busy. It’s been busy. What a week! As a year 6 teacher, once you’ve got through SATs week you have the added bonus of potentially having a writing moderation. For me, this year saw me get that added little perk and the additional work required to get things ready. That was Tuesday. On Thursday, we… Continue reading

Peco NG7 Penrhyn Wagon Kit
The workbench has been pretty quiet for sometime, but after a chance discovery, that was quickly remedied recently! Whilst mooching on NGRM, I noticed someone had shared the Peco release video for their new NG7 wooden kit, a pack of 3 Penrhyn wagons. I don’t really know why, but I’ve always loved these wagons and… Continue reading

422 Modelmaking Wagon
Here we go, my first model making project of 2025 and an enjoyable little job it’s been too. With layout building a no go whilst a house move is in the offing, I wanted to do something else 7mm and the 422 Modelmaking Iron Quarry Tub Wagon kit seemed to fit the bill. My idea… Continue reading

FAIL: Faulty Attempt In Lining

On Edward Thomas I decided to try a new way of lining corners. I shouldn’t have bothered. Online research had suggested that painting small yellow circles and then going over them with black, leaving just the outside of the circle showing, was an effective way of lining corners. On Dolgoch, lining the corners with their… Continue reading

Edward Thomas: Applying Rule 1!

Yes, I’ve made a decision. Is it the right one? In all honesty, I’m not entirely sure but it’s a decision made and one I’m sticking with. Using the image accompanying this postcard can you guess the colour?! As a time-starved modeller, I ultimately went with the most practical decision. I’d already started the ‘painting… Continue reading

Painting wagons.

A fairly simple update today: painting wagons. As a consequence, there is nothing ground breaking to report. I primed, I painted (using a mix consisting of primer and a drop of purple) and then used plain black for the areas needing it. And that was it; job done. Nice and easy, just how I like… Continue reading

Wagons, wagons, wagons.

Due to a slight speech impediment as a child, in my house Thomas the Tank didn’t have ‘trucks.’ (I’m sure you can work it out…) It’s stuck with me, so here are three ‘wagons’ I’ve been working on. They are all Dundas: incline, 2-bar slate and the splay-sided. As with all Dundas wagons, they fall… Continue reading

Fair Price Models Bridge #2

Here we go, another quick throwback. A more recent build was this bridge. Again, I’d gone right off the maroon metalwork and wanted to use the bronze green. Therefore it was pretty much the same technique as last week, except I used a lot more black as my dry brushing of choice. I’m pretty happy… Continue reading
