About Chisel

The management and processing of information is a central issue in the cultural heritage field. Work on archaeological sites or cultural heritage artefacts usually generates a huge amount of heterogeneous information such as text documents, images data tables, video files, and so forth. All this data must be efficiently collected, organized and accessed by the experts, specialists or any others interested in the information. CHiSEL is a prototype of a cultural heritage information system where all data related to an object is organized into a set of 3D information layers. In this way, the information can be directly rendered on the artefact surface in order to perform queries or analysis using the spatial distribution of the information itself.
