IR(1nfraRed)-tag is stably detected and distinguished by IR filtering camera. Combination of the IR-tag and wireless LAN (Local Area Network) enables ALTAIR to control the IR-tags through the network to perform stable tracking for multiple users. The position of the detected IR-tag and its network information (e.g. I P address) are associated with each other by controlling the emission pattern of the IR-tag in turn. ALTAIR starts to aware the user's position when the user enters the system area, using DHCP(Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) service. Our experiments show the effective performance to tracking and recognize the users' positions in an office environment.

This paper proposes a new pedestrian-centered traffic system concept named "Pedestrian's ITS" (P-ITS) based on ubiquitous and wearable computing techniques. This paper focuses on the wearable computer for the blind, one of the weakest areas in traffic systems. As knowledge of surroundings is most important for the blind to walk safely, the paper presents a method to support "surrounding presumption" on the wearable computer.

Each marker is transparent and the marker has different colors, and outside of the marker is a region for estimating order of the overlay. ID patterns are detected from overlaid markers by splitting an input image in red, green and blue channel image. The overlaid order is estimated with the use of average color in the estimation area of overlaid order. Moreover this marker can estimate the relative degree of rotation angle between markers. To evaluate the performance of the proposed marker, we measured the misalignment which can be permitted when detecting each marker and the accuracy of estimated relative angle of the rotation. Moreover the maximum angle which can detect each marker between camera and marker is measured.

IR(InfraRed)-tag is stably detected and distinguished from the scenery by IR filtering camera. Combination of the IR-tag and wireless LAN (Local Area Network) enables ALTAIR to control the timing and the lighting pattern of the IR-tags through the network to perform stable tracking for multiple users. To identify the user and the location, detected IR-tag position and its network information (e.g. IP address) are associated with each other. ALTAIR is capable of dynamic management of the users' entry and automatically starts to aware the user's position when he/she enters the system area, using DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) performances. Our experimental results show the effective performance in terms of precision and stability for tracking and identifying the users' positions in an office environment.

However, existing devices are unable to achieve accurate color reproduction. This paper proposes a method to accurately reproduce the colors displayed by a multiband 3D projector. Previously, we proposed a stereoscopic display system with an expanded color gamut. However, we only confirmed the expansion of the color gamut of the proposed system and were unable to display stereoscopic images with accurate colors. We now propose an accurate color and spectral reproduction method for a stereoscopic image display system for which we developed an expanded color gamut by means of the covariance matrix adaptation evolution strategy (CMA-ES). The system design for optimizing the color reproduction of the multiband 3D projector is described. An experimental evaluation of the color reproducibility showed the performance of the proposed method to be superior to that of an existing method.

In interior design, for instance, the coordinates of the arrangements and the colours of the items need to be determined based on various layout plans. We propose a new framework for interactively arranging and rendering virtual objects in real space by manipulating physical 3D markers. A 3D marker consists of 2D codes and a spherical mirror for acquiring both geometric and photometric conditions by single camera instantaneously. Experimental results showed that the proposed approach is effective for providing appropriate geometry and local lighting conditions to present each virtual object in a simple system. The proposed system allows the user to experiment arranging of virtual furniture and verify the created scene which is visually consistent with the physical space.

This paper describes E-cane designed for the Blind to support their traveling by detecting such obstacles. Foregoing electric travel aids do not tell surroundings or obstacles, but just convert obtained data into certain signals such as vibration. E-cane presumes surroundings from obtained data and notify interpretation. This situation presumption mechanism understands surroundings as combinations of walls and floors. This wall/floor-strategy is designed for fast and robust processing. Experiment results show that the proposed system detects and notifies surroundings properly, therefore the Blind can walk more safely.

The proposed system consists of a single CCD camera and a cylindrical mirror. A target object is placed inside the cylindrical mirror and an image is captured by the camera from above. There are two or more points that have the same origin in the captured image: one is observed directly, and the other is observed via the mirror. This situation means that a point is observed by a real camera and virtual cameras at the same time. Therefore, the three-dimensional shape of the object can be obtained using stereo vision. We simulated an actual experimental situation and measured the three-dimensional shape of the object from the simulated image, and the results have demonstrated that the proposed method is useful for measuring the whole three-dimensional shape.

The proposed system distinguishes the mainstream of the discussion from other chattering based on the utterances. The situation of the meeting is acquired as a picture using an omni-directional vision sensor, and the system analyzes speaker's relations from the captured image by using face directions for the participants. The system shows the mainstream and the chattering of a meeting by using the analyzed result and speech-recognition.

Proposed system performs a direct projection of the intersectional imagery onto the patient's body by an optical projector. The surface shape of the patient is taken into consideration for image projection. Optical shape measurement and graphical synthesis techniques are combined for producing distortion-free images so that the physician can intuitively manipulate the ultrasonic probe and observe the echography in the identical physical space.

This research aims to realize such transporter by using Mixed Reality (MR) technology. In this paper, the authors introduce a framework of "A Distributed MR Transporter" and following two essential technologies to realize it; 1) The coherency control protocol named "Duplication-Selection-Protocol" for comfortable and joyful collaboration in shared MR space, 2) "Ponch-3D" to acquire and reconstruct remote real space as a simplified 3D model. The proposed framework and technologies can be applicable for several practical applications.

In order to realize an ideal collaborative workspace, an effective handling scheme for both interactive virtual objects and system operation of VR/MR platform is needed. In this paper, we describe the three components, which are the direct manipulation interfaces for potable MR space and for fixed shared VR/MR space, and Interactive 3D Marker for displaying and manipulating virtual objects reflected lighting and geometry conditions of the real world. These components can give users seamless manipulation workspace by the natural operations such as they behave in their daily life. We also introduce Interactive Interior Design System using these components. This system realizes to coordinate the suitable interiors in the real space, by the free manipulation of virtual interior objects reflected the geometry and the lighting condition of the real space.
