This will cost you more revenue than simply losing the sale would have cost in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately, <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/chargebacks911.com\/chargebacks\/\"   title=\"Chargebacks 101\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"2327\">chargebacks<\/a> that result from authorization errors are 100% avoidable.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>How<\/strong> Authorization Works<\/h2>\n<p>Authorization is the process of gaining either approval or denial of a credit card transaction from the customer\u2019s issuing bank. <a href=\"https:\/\/chargebacks911.com\/purchase-authorization\/\" title=\"Purchase Authorization\"  data-wpil-monitor-id=\"2326\">The authorization process<\/a> also ensures the card hasn\u2019t been reported lost or stolen. This largely automated process takes place almost instantaneously, but there are still places where merchant actions can either make sure the authorization goes through as intended...or create a potential <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link \" title=\"bank chargeback\" href=\"https:\/\/chargebacks911.com\/bank-chargeback\/\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\">bank chargeback<\/a> situation based on an authorization error.<\/p>\n<p>To demonstrate how this all works, let\u2019s take a look at the chargeback reason codes associated with Visa card authorization errors. These codes were altered and renumbered last year as part of the Visa Claims Resolution initiative; the overall functions remain much the same, but there are significant variations between the new system and the legacy system.<\/p>\n<h2>Visa Authorization-Error <strong>Reason Codes (Legacy)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In April 2018, Visa introduced changes to its chargeback <a title=\"Bank Dispute Process\" href=\"https:\/\/chargebacks911.com\/bank-dispute-process\/\">dispute process<\/a>, collectively labeled as Visa Claims Resolution (VCR). The transaction should have been terminated. However, the merchant failed to check the Card Recovery Bulletin (CRB) before allowing the transaction.<\/p>\n<p>The simplest way to prevent this type of chargeback is by checking the Card Recovery Bulletin before you process the transaction.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><hr \/><div class=\"row \">\n<div class=\"col-md-4\"><div class=\"cb-align-left\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4082\" src=\"https:\/\/chargebacks911.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/080619_Auth_Errors_Images-06.png\" width=\"250\" alt=\"\"\/><\/div><\/div><div class=\"col-md-8\">\n<h3><span style=\"color: #dc0000;\"><strong>Reason Code 11.2: <\/strong><\/span>No Authorization<\/h3>\n<p>Legacy Code: 71<\/p>\n<p>Visa chargeback reason code 11.2 is the result of receiving a <a title=\"Credit Card Decline Codes\" href=\"https:\/\/chargebacks911.com\/credit-card-decline-codes\/\">declined<\/a> authorization but going ahead with the transaction anyway. When a card is declined, it is in your best interest to accept that answer and either cancel the transaction or ask for a different <a href=\"https:\/\/chargebacks911.com\/chargeback-form\/\" title=\"Chargeback Form\">form of payment<\/a>. Don\u2019t attempt to force a transaction through by repeatedly swiping the card or by seeking authorization via manual card entry or over-the-phone approval.<\/p>\n<p>To avoid these types of authorization errors, simply follow standard processing procedures. Submit the transaction for authorization and proceed with the transaction only if it is approved.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><hr \/><div class=\"row \">\n<div class=\"col-md-4\"><div class=\"cb-align-left\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4082\" src=\"https:\/\/chargebacks911.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/080619_Auth_Errors_Images-05.png\" width=\"250\" alt=\"\"\/><\/div><\/div><div class=\"col-md-8\">\n<h3><span style=\"color: #dc0000;\"><strong>Reason Code 11.3:<\/strong><\/span> Delined Authorization<\/h3>\n<p>Legacy Code: 72<\/p>\n<p>Visa chargeback reason code 11.3 occurs when the transaction information is incorrect or if no authorization has been given prior to completion of the sale.<\/p>\n<p>Prevent these chargebacks by always sending an authorization request and waiting for approval before processing a transaction. Don\u2019t add a tip to the bill amount. If your card reader is having trouble processing the card and you utilize a keyed-in entry or a voice authorization, make sure you <a title=\"Credit Card Authorization Codes\" href=\"https:\/\/chargebacks911.com\/credit-card-authorization-codes\/\">write down the authorization code<\/a>.<\/p><p><em>(Note: Reason code 73 is no longer usable. Reason code 77 was moved to a different category.)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><h2><strong>Prevent Chargebacks<\/strong> from Authorization Errors<\/h2>\n<p>Authorization errors are just that: errors, on the part of the merchant. The good news is, they are easily avoided. Make sure you\u2014and your employees\u2014know to double-check authorization before completing a transaction. If it\u2019s necessary to key in an <a title=\"Virtual Account Number\" href=\"https:\/\/chargebacks911.com\/virtual-account-number\/\">account number<\/a> or receive voice authorization, you should record the authorization code, every time.
