Tribute to a Wonderful Dad

I have paid tribute to my dad in posts in previous years. This year I want to pay tribute to the father of my children. Here is a photo of him with our daughter and son made last Christmas Eve. Our daughter is using this picture now as her profile picture on facebook in honor of her dad for Father’s Day.

I’m grateful to God for allowing this good man to be my husband for almost 53 years. Thank you, dear for all you do for us and for always “being there” for your family. We love you very much.

MORE PRETTY PINK

I was getting ready to do a post for Pink Saturday when an e-mail popped up featuring a local resort. As soon as I saw the picture I knew it was meant for Pink Saturday.

It’s amazing how many beautiful resorts are in our area. This is just one of them.

Closer to home I took this picture of our pink Oleander bushes. They make a good camouflage for the electrical and cable boxes. I know. It would have been better if our trash can had not been in the picture, but there it is at the top of the photo. Why did I take this picture on trash pick-up day? Should have taken it another day. Oh well, the pink is still just as pretty.

Thanks again to Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for hosting Pink Saturday.

THE FINISH LINE

The weather was foggy and chilly; Florence could hardly see the boats accompanying her. Still she swam steadily for 15 hours.

This is the way the story I’m sharing with you from Randy Alcorn’s new book We Shall See God begins.

In 1952, Florence Chadwick stepped off Catalina Island, California, into the waters of the Pacific Ocean, determined to swim to the mainland. An experienced swimmer, she had already made history as the first woman to swim the English Channel both ways.

The weather was foggy and chilly; Florence could hardly see the boats accompanying her. Still she swam steadily for 15 hours.  When she begged to be taken out of the water, her mother, in a boat alongside her, told her that she was close and that she could make it. But Florence, physically and emotionally exhausted, stopped swimming and was pulled into the boat. It wasn’t until she was on board that she discovered the shore was less than half a mile away. At a news conference the next day, she said, “All I could see was the fog . . . I think if I could have seen the shore, I would have made it.”

When you face discouragement, difficulty, or fatigue, or when you feel surrounded by the fog of uncertain circumstances, are you thinking, If only I could see the shore, I could make it?

Set your sights on Jesus Christ, the Rock of salvation. He is the One who has promised to prepare a place for those who put their hope in him, a place where they will live with him forever. If we can learn to fix our eyes on Jesus, to see through the fog and picture our eternal home in our mind’s eye, it will comfort and energize us, giving us a clear look at the finish line.

As I was typing the above, the words to one of my favorite songs kept coming to my mind. Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus is that song. I found several videos of this song on YouTube, but I liked this one best.

PINK SATURDAY

These three years have sure gone by fast. What an amazing array of pinkness has been shared in these three years. Thanks again to Beverly of How Sweet the Sound for hosting. You have made lots of people very happy, Beverly. Here are my pinks for this Happy Birthday celebration.

Hubby at entrance of El Pedregal in far north Scottsdale. Ben & Jerry's in background.

Some more pink at El Pedregal.

And up the road a little way we came to the quaint little town of Carefree. Always browse around a bit at the English Rose Tea Room. Really like these darling pink aprons I saw there.

Pretty pink aprons and other pretty pinks.

Another pretty apron.

More pretty pinks at the English Rose Tea Room.

Arizona bloggers enjoyed an English tea at this lovely location back in April. You might be interested in seeing pictures of that tea if you haven’t already seen them. Of course there is lots of pink in all the pictures. Click HERE to see those photos.

DICKEY’S

We pass by Dickey’s Barbecue every Sunday on our way to and on our way home from church. Sometimes we eat lunch there. For some reason we’ve always called it “Little Dickey’s”. I don’t know why. There is no “little” in their name. We’ve been noticing a fire truck parked adjacent to their place of business for the past few weeks. I told Hubby maybe it belongs to Dickey’s. So today after church we stopped by there for lunch and lo and behold, on closer examination we found the fire truck did belong to them. Of course I always have my camera handy, so I got a shot. What good is a picture if you don’t share it, so I’m sharing it with you now.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend. I posted a Spiritual Sundays post on my other blog this week. http://athomeinscottsdale.blogspot.com/.

A little side note: Seems I’m always speculating about something. I’m wondering if maybe Charles Barkley bought this fire truck for them so they could deliver to his house faster. He eats there. Our daughter saw him there one day.

Pink Mother’s Day

My family knows I love pink and I often get pink gifts from them. Tonight and tomorrow I will spend with my kids. I’m looking forward to that. Among other gifts Hubby gave me for Mother’s Day is this beautiful flower arrangement. It’s pink and blue. Pink is my favorite color. Blue is his favorite color and my second favorite.
I hope everyone has a beautiful Pink Saturday and Happy Mother’s Day. Thanks again to Beverly at How Sweet the Sound for hosting Pink Saturday each week.
