SALT

In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus told his followers they were the salt of the earth. I don’t believe this was just for those gathered there that day but for all followers of Jesus in every age. He went on to say they were also the light of the world. I want to be salt and light. So, I got to thinking a little more about salt and how important it is in our lives.

  1. Matthew 5:13
Salt and Light ] “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
Matthew 5:12-14 (in Context) Matthew 5 (Whole Chapter)

I was reminded of this scripture as I was deciding what to share this week for Spiritual Sundays. Ginger, who co-hosts that blog with me visited us last weekend along with her husband and mother-in-law. Ginger is such a thoughtful person. She is always giving me small gifts and this time she brought me a bottle of pink salt. She knows I love pink. It was in a pretty pink bag and in the bag was also a really neat magazine. I’m very thankful that I do not have to limit my salt intake the way many people do. I will enjoy this pink salt. I’m already enjoying just looking at it. I hope it reminds me of this scripture each time I use it. I don’t want to be like salt that has lost its saltiness for as the scripture says, it is no longer any good and needs to be thrown out.

Here is a picture of Ginger and me taken while she was here.

I want to remind everybody that next weekend is the Miracle Makeover for Charlie Grady that we’ve been talking about for the past couple of weeks. Be sure to visit DESIGN GIVES BACK to find out more about the event. There is also information about it on the Spiritual Sundays blog. Be sure to go there and click on the links to read the many inspiring posts that other bloggers have shared there. You might want to share something on your blog by linking there as well.

Since the salt is pink I think I will also share this on Pink Saturday. Beverly at How Sweet the Sound is also involved in the Miracle Makeover blog party next week. You will want to check out her Pink Saturday blog as well.

DO YOU KNOW CHARLIE?

If you don’t know Charlie I hope you will get to know him. Let me introduce you. This is Charlie.

Charlie

And guess what? I’m a Charlie’s Angel. And besides me there are other Charlie’s Angels: Ginger, Sherry, Beverly, and others. How do I know this? Kelee told me. Of course Kelee is the “lead” angel.

Charlie is a remarkable boy.  He started his own toy drive at Christmas so he could help the children at St. Louis Children’s Hospital. Santa Charlie received so much media attention, he has been able to supply the hospital with toys all year long now. An earthly angel after our own hearts.

Many of you will remember the makeover we participated in last year for cancer victim Colette. She is doing well and not only surviving, but thriving. What a blessing it was for us to be a part of that wonderful Miracle Makeover blog party. And, we are blessed again that Kelee has asked Spiritual Sundays to participate in this new endeavor.

This time the makeover is for 8 year old Charlie Grady, pictured above, who has life threatening brain tumors. He has just started a grueling course of 60 weeks of chemotherapy. Charlie had his first round of chemo at the age of 5, and is now blind in his right eye from that tumor. Charlie has a bright spirit that loves life as well as his family, trucks, trains and  dogs. Charlie dreams of growing up and becoming a truck driver. Just look at the little sneak peak below of a piece of Charlie’s makeover.

This event has been co-sponsored by Guideposts, a major building company and the makeovers are done by Design Gives Back. Here is the link to  their new site. http://www.designgivesback.com/miracle-makeovers/

Everyone reading this can help make a difference in someone’s life just by commenting on one of the participating blogs on August 12 – 18. Of course we want you to be sure to visit Spiritual Sundays at that time and make a comment there. Each comment there will mean $1 contributed to the next miracle makeover. And of course we don’t want you to stop there but also go to the other sites where you can also make a comment. Each person can comment on up to five different sites and each one will mean another dollar.

Besides helping others, everyone who comments will be entered in a giveaway and the prizes are terrific, including:

  • $100 Hobby Lobby Gift Certificate
  • $200 Lowe’s Gift Certificate
  • A two-night stay at Residence Inn by Marriott
  • An Original Oil Painting

You may want to go even beyond commenting and make a donation to the next Miracle Makeover via Paypal at Design Gives Back.

A video will be available soon showing the complete makeover for Charlie. You won’t want to miss that.

  1. Matthew 25:40
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least ofthese brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
Matthew 25:39-41 (in Context) Matthew 25 (Whole Chapter)
  2. Matthew 25:45
“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least ofthese, you did not do for me.’
Matthew 25:44-46 (in Context) Matthew 25 (Whole Chapter)
I will be sharing this for my Spiritual Sundays post this week. Ginger and I are thrilled that so many are linking to that blog now. On My Father’s Side by The Barn Again Gang

This video is usually shared at Christmas or Easter. I really like it so I decided to share it here in July.

REFLECTIONS

Yesterday was a good day at our house. Hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, corn on the cob, watermelon and homemade ice cream – a tradition for our 4th of July holiday. The reason I’m sharing this is because I thought this photo our daughter took of hubby and me was so unusual that I wanted to share it. She took it standing on the patio. You can see inside the house plus reflections in the window of the pool and the roof of the house behind us among other things. You can see Clif is dishing up the strawberry ice cream and I’m standing there waiting in anticipation.

This week is off to a good start. Today is Silver Sneakers day. I hope everyone has a very good week.

CELEBRATE THE FREEDOM

FREEDOM

Since this is Independence Day weekend in our country, I started thinking more about freedom and what it really means. There are always those who want to take our freedom away. So many of our freedoms in the United States have already been taken away. We need to pray that this trend will be reversed. There is a freedom that no one can take away and I thank God for that. Here are a couple of examples from the Bible.
  1. John 8:31
The Truth Shall Make You Free ] Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.
John 8:30-32 (in Context) John 8 (Whole Chapter)
  2. John 8:32
And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
John 8:31-33 (in Context) John 8 (Whole Chapter)
  3. John 8:36
Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
John 8:35-37 (in Context) John 8 (Whole Chapter)

Freedom is a wonderful thing. May we never take it for granted.

Please check out our Spiritual Sundays blog if you did not come here from there. You will find links to so many inspiring posts. We have so many people linking now that it takes me all the next week to visit everybody and comment. Each time I visit someone later in the week I tell myself,  “Wow, I’m glad I didn’t miss this.” So, what I’m saying is I know there are a lot of links and it is almost impossible to visit all of them on the weekend, so I hope you will do like I do, and visit when you have a few minutes all through the week. It will bless your life. Just click on the Spiritual Sundays picture to take you there.

THE REST OF THE PICTURE

One of my bloggy friends commenting on the photo I posted for Father’s Day said she hoped I got a shot of the family with me in it so I decided to show the rest of the picture. Here is the photo with me in it. The picture was made on Christmas Eve as we were arriving at our former church for a special service (our son is still a member there). Thanks, Dave, for taking the picture and sending it to us. Thanks, Kat, for the comment on my last post.
