Since it's been like... two months since I've posted, and many things happened in between, I'm going to make one of those dreaded update posts.

Super-fast, before it becomes January:

1. I slept through an accountancy exam. :( Staying up until 5 a.m. + 8 a.m. class + midterm = BAD IDEA. Luckily, my teacher let me take a make-up on the same day. It's just... I oversleep so rarely -- I've done it twice, actually. The first time, I missed a class where I had to turn in a paper. I guess I just have really bad luck?

2. The reason why I stayed up so late that night was because I was talking to Kevin. We've been arguing a lot recently, which stinks. :(

3. My laptop's hard drive died. The repairs cost $263. Thanks, Apple. That brings the total spent in REPAIRS to this laptop to about $540. Ugh... But then again, not only did they do the hard drive replacement the same day, they also installed Leopard (I had Tiger before), and replaced my yellowed trackpad and laptop casing. When I got it back, I was like, "Um... did they give me the wrong laptop?" because it looked so new. Even the keyboard seemed more... clicky. The bad news: the last time I backed up my data was May. I lost every file from this semester. The lesson learned: back up regularly. Also, get a better warranty plan for my next laptop.

4. Note: #1 and #3 happened within 24 hours of each other. It was not a good week.

5. I'm done with the semester and my classes went well. Also, my section-leading job? IT WAS SO GOOD. I never fell behind on homework and it was completely unstressful.

6. I am having a lot of trouble getting an internship. I've only gotten two interviews, and both of them sent me denial emails afterwards. :(

7. I actually found people that have read the ASOIAF books. This means I won't actually implode. For the first time in like, two years, I'm writing fanfiction and drawing fanart. This is like... a miracle! :O

Oh no, it's one of those dreaded... UPDATE POSTS.

Updates (really quickly!):

1. ChicTech retreat was a while ago. It went a lot better this year. More on this later?

2. Laptop's CD drive was broken. It was sent into the shop and it's fixed now, but the operation cost me $280! ;_; Cuuurse you, Apple!

3. Speaking of Apple, I got my first iPod at the WCS banquet (more on this later?). Despite it being a Shuffle, I think this means I'm cool now!

4. I got caught up with my grading. My grading times actually sped up due to my grading homeworks individually instead of all at once, problem-by-problem.

5. Four finals finished last week. Did well on all the finals I took. The only class I'm worried about is the only class I didn't have a final for: ANTH 262. Argh.

6. I've spent the last couple of days watching Disney movies (Snow White, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Pocahontas, Cinderella, Fantasia, & Robin Hood) and non-Disney kids movies (The Land Before TIme & Charlotte's Web) with Kevin. Reviews to come?

Also, an icon post is overdue and may or may not be coming soon.

So...

The Bad:
I overslept my first class by two and a half hours. Which means I missed two of my classes. Including the one that my stupid five-page paper, which I stayed up until 8:30 AM writing, was for. Evidently my Get Good Grades Methods are very counter-productive. :((((

The Good:
On the plus side, that means I actually got to eat lunch today. Yay...? I talked to a person in my CLCV discussion section, which was actually pretty nice.

The Ironic:
When I went to the bathroom this morning, "Bad Day" by Daniel Powter was playing on the radio. Whenever I hear that song and I'm actually having a bad day, I always cry. Maybe I'm weird.

Well... tomorrow's the first day of the semester. Hopefully I don't get lost trying to find my classes like I did in a dream I had over winter break.

Courses this semester:

CS Requirements
System Programming - I think this is an intro to working with operating systems.
Theory of Computation - I think this is a math-y course about computation and things that are computable or not, proofs, languages and grammars, and Turing machines.

Non-CS Requirements
Probability Theory - Calculating complex probability stuff, I guess.

Electives
Women's Lives (honors course) - This is about the roles, status, and perception of women around the world. Sounds pretty interesting. I'm scared that I might have to actually write papers for this class, though. :(
Mythology of Greek and Rome - Pretty much what it sounds like. Probably a pretty worthless class, but also with the likelihood of a paper. :(

And, I will also be continuing my section leader job. :D

I just realized how much I've lost track of time. I was writing the date on a paper a few days ago: March 3, 2007. And then I thought to myself, "Oh wow, I can't believe I wrote 2007 instead of 2006. It usually takes me until February in order to adjust to the new year!"

...

...

And then I realized it was March. The irony!

Anyway, I'm working on an original game idea for next year, since most of my game projects are starting to finish up. There's going to be a huge art dump sometime soon for all the stuff that I drew for my game projects. @_@ I'm so art-pooped-out right now. My drawing style has degraded into pure laziness ("It's supposed to be really sketchy like that. I'm trying to go for a rough chalk effect, you know?").

School has been really busy as of late. I think it's a combination of (1) my 18-credit-hour schedule catching up to me, (2) the fact that I've been going to aikido more regularly (2-3 times a week as opposed to once ever 2-3 weeks...), and (3) game-making project crunch time. But I think I've finished all the homework due before Thursday so I can relax a little.

Anyway, one more quizzie:

Final Fantasy Character Test

Which Final Fantasy Character Are You?

Yuna's probably the one FF character I relate the most to.

  • I watched the fall musical that my roommate was playing music for, "Into the Woods". It was actually kind of useful because I'm doing a fairy tale rewrite for NaNoWriMo (which, by the way, I haven't done anything for since Friday due to a twelve-hour puzzle competition).
  • About NaNoWriMo: I introduced a character (a prince). Before, I wasn't sure about his character and if he could fit into the storyline. Now, he's sucking up all the attention. NOT COOL. Especially for such a last-minute minor character. Also, he's a LOT like the princes in "Into the Woods" (but, hey, I wrote him before I saw that play, so... >.>;;)
  • SUCCESS: I had a conversation with my roommate about FFX! Yayayay! A friend called telling her about FFXII, and then we started talking about other FFs.
  • SUCCESS: I was able to meet with my advisor the day after I cried because I couldn't register for classes, so I was able to get into all the classes I wanted.
  • It looks like I will be writing 18 hours a day during Thanksgiving Break, due to both my writing class and NaNoWriMo.
  • NOTE TO SELF: Must remember that moment of inertia is c*mass*radius^2, NOT force*distance. That's TORQUE. Arghhhhh...

I hate not being able to blame anybody for thisCollapse )

ETA: Writing this finally made me get up off my indecisive butt and e-mail that lady again. Maybe this time I'll actually be able to schedule something.

Ugh... I'm so tired...

I really don't want to take my CS125 test tomorrow, especially since I'm sick. Staying up until 3 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday didn't help either. I need a new physics study buddy too... My current one is dropping the class. :(

Oh yeah, I finally remember what I was going to make this journal entry about, haha. Last night, I watched Indiana Jones: Temple of Doom with my roommate. I've never watched it before, so I realized then what Operation: R.A.B.B.I.T. was spoofing off of. I was telling my roommate about Kids Next Door and Op. RABBIT, thinking that she wouldn't know of it, and then she says, "Oh wait! I think I've seen that before! Did it... have, like, a German kid?" and I was like, "Yeah!!"

My roommate's a Germanophile. She's double-majoring in German and History, so... yeah... I thought that was really funny. ^^

Woo, I've been living in the UIUC dorms since... this Saturday, I think.

I haven't talked to my roommate much, but she seems pretty cool. She has a Final Fantasy X poster hung up on the wall, so that's a good sign. :D Also, she seems to like the Beatles, which is also a good sign. :D

I went to Quad Day yesterday, which is where a bunch of university student organizations set up booths and try to get people to join their club. I signed up for the mailing lists of Women in Computer Science, Association for Computing Machinery, Kendo/Naginata Club (I don't actually do kendo, but my friend forced me to join this...), and Japanese Animation Club. Yay.

I took a Chemistry Proficiency Test on Saturday and I got 6 hours of chemistry credit. Yay! This Saturday is my Math 242 Proficiency Test, which I hope I can pass as well.

Hm, what else is there to say?

Oh yeah, about a week ago, I bought Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. I've been playing a little bit of it every day. The playing style of the game is actually really similar to that of Kingdom Hearts (i.e., just mash the A button repeatedly until the enemies die). The story is kind of interesting - you meet the same characters as you do in Kingdom Hearts but they face a slightly different problem, usually having to do with memories. I think the downside is that there aren't huge stages that require a lot of jumping and exploring in order to get all the hidden treasure like there are in Kingdom Hearts. Also, all the people in black trenchcoats annoy me.
