The free and #openaccess publication service CEUR-WS.org uses the Creative Commons CC-BY 4.0 license for published papers. Hence the copyright remains with the authors who specifically grant CEUR-WS.org the right (not the duty) put their papers online. CEUR-WS has no copyright to the author’s papers, it just has the right to put the papers online by virtue of the CC-BY license and the explicit permission by the authors.

There is one element on published PDFs that is owned by CEUR-WS.org. This is the #CEURWS logo. We started in December 2023 to watermark published PDF files with the logo at the buttom left of the first page. This indicates to readers that the PDF is a paper originally published on CEUR-WS.org. A second indication is the URL of the paper on CEUR-WS-org. This allows readers to download the original of the PDF from CEUR-WS.org if they got a copy from somewhere else and they want to check its authenticity.
We only allow this logo to be imprinted on paper PDFs that are originally published on CEUR-WS.org. For example, preprints/postprints of papers that were accepted for a workshop but not yet published on CEUR-WS.org, may not carry the logo! Exact copies of a paper currently published on CEUR-WS.org may carry the logo.
2023-12-13: The CEURART templates at https://ceur-ws.org/Vol-XXX/ have been updated to no longer include the #CEURWS logo. The watermarking procedure has been updated to imprint the logo on published PDFs.
