A scene using a bistatic pair of these IRAs is modeled with a sphere target and is simulated in the frequency domain. The input to the antenna is a Gaussian pulse, and the current on the receive antenna is plotted vs. frequency. This receiver response is proportional to the scattered field from the sphere. The frequency domain data are processed to give the time domain response. The objective of this work is to deconvolve the signature of the scatterer from the receiver transient response. Additional separate simulations for each scene component and electromagnetic interaction were needed and were performed using WIPL-D. The process is successful for this scene, which does not include a ground plane. The analysis of the simulated data and deconvolution of the target signature are done in Matlab.

Differences among Health Professionals in Attitudes toward Persons with AIDS

Attitudes toward individuals described in a vignette were elicited from 256 randomly selected health education professors. Subjects received one of four vignettes plus a survey to assess prejudice, social interaction, and interpersonal characteristics. Vignettes differed only in the illness being either AIDS or leukemia, and in sexual preference, which was heterosexual or homosexual. Results indicated that health education professors considered that persons with AIDS were more responsible for their illness, more deserving of what has happened to them, more dangerous to others, and more deserving to be quarantined than persons with leukemia. The data also suggested that although the professors held negative attitudes toward persons with AIDS, they wer...

Solving challenging electromagnetic problems using MoM and a parallel out-of-core solver on high performance clusters

TIDES has the capability to exceed the memory limitations of typical computer systems by using the method of moments with higher order basis functions and a parallel out-of-core integral equation solver. The new results presented here show that TIDES is an excellent tool for

The eventual purpose of producing such surfaces is to help estimate the daily spread of pathogens causing crop diseases as they move across regions. The interpolation techniques included four deterministic and three geostatistical methods. Quantitative assessment of the continuous surfaces showed that there was a large difference between the accuracy of the seven interpolation methods and that the geostatistical methods were superior to deterministic methods. Further analyses, testing the reliability of the results, showed that measurement accuracy, density, distribution and spatial variability had a substantial influence on the accuracy of the interpolation methods. Independent wind speed data from ten other dates were used to confirm the robustness of the best interpolation methods. ©...

Previously, advancements in chip technology meant an increase in clock speed, which was typically a ...

The objective of this paper is to study the transient responses of various well-known antennas over broad frequency ranges. As such, the phase responses of these antennas as a function of frequency are of great interest. In the ensuing analysis, each antenna is excited by a monocycle pulse. Many antennas show resonant properties, and numerous reflections exist in the antennas' outputs. The first part of this paper deals with ways of converting various resonating antennas to traveling-wave antennas by using resistive loading. Appropriate loading increases the bandwidth of operation of the antennas. However, the drawback is the additional loss in the load applied to the antenna structure, leading to a loss of efficiency to around fifty percent. However, some of the antennas are inherently broadband, up to a 100:1 bandwidth. Hence, the transient responses of these antennas can be used to determine their suitability for wideband applications with a low cutoff frequency. The second part of the paper illustrates the radiation and reception properties of various conventional ultra-wideband (UWB) antennas in the time domain. An antenna's transient response can be used to determine the suitability of the antenna in wideband applications. Thus, parents of affected women may have a higher prevalence of CVD events than the general population. methods: PCOS probands (n ¼ 410) and their participating parents (n ¼ 180 fathers and 211 mothers) were queried for CVD events in themselves and non-participating family members. In order to include the family CVD history of all parents, agreement between the proband and parental reports of CVD events was assessed. Estimated 10-year coronary heart disease (CHD) risk was calculated using the Framingham risk calculator. The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) 2001-2002 database was used to generate gender, age and body mass index-relevant population parameters of CVD prevalence in the USA population. results: Ninety-eight percent of the parents' self-reporting of CVD events agreed with the proband's report of parental heart attack history [Kappa ¼ 0.82; 95% CI: (0.69, 0.94)] and 99% with parental stroke history [Kappa ¼ 0.79; 95% CI: (0.62, 0.97)]. Fathers of women with PCOS had a higher prevalence of heart attack and stroke compared with the reference NHANES population (heart attack: 11.1 versus 5.3%, P , 0.0001; stroke: 3.0 versus 1.0%, P ¼ 0.002). Fathers of women with PCOS had an elevated 10-year risk for CHD (11.5 versus 9.9% in NHANES, P ¼ 0.03). No statistically significant increased prevalence of CVD events or 10-year risk was noted in probands or mothers. conclusions: Fathers, and not mothers, may be disproportionately burdened with CVD in PCOS families. The strengths of this study include the size of our cohort, the consistent phenotyping and the validation of proband's reporting of parental CVD events.

Supranational intangible heritage policies promote a contradictory package that aims to preserve local identity and cultural diversity while promoting democratic values and economic development. Such efforts may contribute to the deployment of language that stresses mutual exclusivity and incommensurability, with important consequences for individual and group access to resources. This article examines these tensions with ethnographic attention to a Hungarian folk revival movement, illuminating how local histories of "heritage protection" meet with the global norm of heritage governance in complicated ways. I suggest the paradoxical predicament that both "liberal" notions of diversity and ethno-national boundaries are co-produced through a number of processes in late capitalism, most ...
The conus demyelination syndrome in multiple sclerosis

Recently we encountered a specific subset of patients within this group who had characteristic clinical complaints of hesitancy, straining and incomplete voiding, perineal hypesthesia on examination, areflexia by cystometry and colonometry and electrophysiological parameters suggesting involvement of the conus medullaris. This heretofore postulated but undocumented mechanism of neurovisceral dysfunction in multiple sclerosis is detailed and discussed in 2 patients in this report.

The Relationship Between Concussion Knowledge and the High School Athlete's Intention to Report Traumatic Brain Injury Symptoms: A Systematic Review of the Literature
The Journal of school nursing : the official publication of the National Association of School Nurses, Jan 3, 2015

Long-term and short-term effects of TBI on the athlete's developing brain can be minimized if the athlete reports and is effectively treated for TBI symptoms. Knowledge of concussion symptoms and a school culture of support are critical in order to promote the student's intention to report TBI symptoms. The purpose of this systematic review is to examine the relationship between the high school athlete's concussion knowledge and an intention to report TBI symptoms. One hundred eleven articles were retrieved and four articles met established criteria and were included in this systematic review. A link appears to exist between high school athlete concussion knowledge and an intention to report TBI symptoms. School nurses can provide a supportive environment and concussion knowledge to the high school athlete in order to ultimately facilitate TBI symptom reporting.
