Founded in 1998, the Cateran Society studies the use of the historical weapons of the Scottish Highlands, especially the basket-hilted broadsword.
Broadsword fencing is a form of historical swordsmanship, a martial art based on the manuals of Donald McBane (1728), Thomas Page (1746), Andrew Lonnergan (1771), John Ferdinand (1788), G. Sinclair (1790), Archibald MacGregor (1791), Henry Angelo (1799), John Taylor (1804), and Thomas Mathewson (1805).
If you want to learn the martial art of broadsword fencing, you can train with any of our certified Caterans or Mentors, or through the Cateran Society Online Program.
