A little bit about my people:
When your Serbian friend’s parents talk to you like they’re YOUR PARENTS too.The word “SRAMOTA!” (Shame) will deter you from anything. Cevapcici on the grill are better than steak any day. A week after Slava (Damily Saint Day), Bozic (EO Christmas), and Easter you are still eating Sarmas (ground meet and rice wrapped in cabbage). You can dance a kolo to anything, even trumpets playing “Moravac” in Guca! When you look for last names that end in an “ic”, “ich” or “ski” Your favorite phrase is “Nema Problema.” (No Worries!) Your church has a fully loaded bar. Rakija (Sljivovica and all other assortments of hard liker) is used to cure all illnesses, celebrate all occasions, and as a massage lotion. You think everything is a conspiracy. You tell Americans where you’re from and you end up explaining the entire history of Yugoslavia. Your father calls you a “dummy” for not knowing how to do something he can’t do either. You don’t want to have or do any business with Serbs. When your baba (grandma) will not accept the fact that you’re not hungry. All the older Serbs around you are always worried about drafts.The first conversation you had as a baby used the words “jebi ga” (f’it).
