Giordanelli nació en Bogotá en septiembre de 1972. Inició sus estudios de música en la Universidad de los Andes en 1990, institución en la cual comenzó la carrera de guitarra clásica en 1991 bajo la dirección del maestro Jaime Arias Obregón, con quién continua sus estudios. También estudió dos años bajo la dirección del maestro Carlos Rocca Lynn. En 1997 se graduó de músico guitarrista en dicha universidad bajo la tutela del maestro Jaime Arias. Mauricio Giordanelli es el primer guitarrista en graduarse del Departamento de Música de la Universidad de Los Andes. Allí tuvo oportunidad de asistir a talleres y clases magistrales con los maestros Carlos Scholss y Armando Fuentes. In this article the author reflects on the authenticity of the work of Pythagoras of Samos and th... more In this article the author reflects on the authenticity of the work of Pythagoras of Samos and the relevance of commenting the influence of Pythagorean ideas in the development of medieval music. A problem that arises when considering the influence of Pythagoras in the development of European music is the ongoing discussion regarding the authenticity of his work. Since the publication of Walter Burkett’s book Lore and Science in Ancient Pythagoreanism in 1972, it has been questioned whether it was really Pythagoras who developed the studies and ideas that have been attributed to him, and it has been proposed that in most cases these were discoveries made later, or where earlier developments brought over from Egypt or Babylon that have been attributed to him (Huffman, 2006; Burnyeat, 2007; Aleff, 2008). Traditionally in education the different subjects have been organized in a hierarchical scale acc... more Traditionally in education the different subjects have been organized in a hierarchical scale according to their applicability in the working world (Robinson, 2006).In Colombia, this has been done with the goal of promoting a “technical education in order to consolidate the nation’s industry” (Bastidas, 2009). Frequently this results in the neglect of artistic subjects, including music (Restrepo, 2004). Recent researches demonstrate that this is a mistake as there is a strong correlation between formal musical training and academic excellence, a lower incidence of substance abuse, a measurable increase of students’ Intellectual Quotient and the development of new neurological connections in the brain (Hallam, 2001, Altenmüller & Gruhn, 2002; Delisio, 2007, Hobson, 2009). All of the above would lead us to conclude that music education is essential for our youth.
