The study also investigated the targets of intolerance and how they differed among different groups. The findings shed light on the importance of TV exposure in promoting political tolerance, in addition to the significant negative effects of threat perception and religiosity. There were no significant differences in levels of political tolerance between respondents with different demographic characteristics. The implications of the findings are discussed.
This study explores the relationship between parents' perception of the effects of desirable tv. ... more This study explores the relationship between parents' perception of the effects of desirable tv. messages (religious content) and undesirable tv. messages (sexual content) on their own and others' children and parental mediation. A one-on-one survey (N = 420) on parents of adolescents aged 12 to 20 years is conducted. The results indicate that parents who consider their children as less affected by desirable messages or more affected by undesirable messages depend more on mediation. The results shed light on the importance of the child's age and gender in the third-person perception (TPP). With regard to the kind of mediation that parents follow, the study shows that it is affected by different factors as; the kind of content (religious vs. sexual), parents' education, family income, parents' age and gender. The implications of these results are discussed.
