Sometimes we release small patches, fixes, or test versions of Burst Statistics before the official release. These are made available as separate branches on GitHub for users who want to test new features or get early access to bug fixes.
When would you need this?
- You’re experiencing a bug that has been fixed in a development version
- We’ve asked you to test a specific feature or patch
- You want early access to new functionality before the official release
Step-by-step installation guide
Step 1: Visit our GitHub repository
Step 2: Select the correct branch
Look for a dropdown menu that shows “main” or “master” by default. Click on it and select the branch you need to install. This will usually be mentioned in our support communication or announcement.
Step 3: Download the code
- Click the green “Code” button
- Select “Download ZIP” from the dropdown menu
- Save the file to your computer
Step 4: Prepare your WordPress site
- Go to your WordPress admin dashboard
- Navigate to Plugins
- Find your current Burst Statistics plugin and click Deactivate
- In the popup select the blue button, “deactivate” and don’t choose the red one, because it will delete your data.
Important: Don’t delete the plugin yet, just deactivate it. This way you can always return to this version easily.
Step 5: Install the new version
- In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New
- Click Upload Plugin at the top of the page
- Click Choose File and select the ZIP file you downloaded from GitHub
- Click Install Now
- Once installed, click Activate Plugin
Important notes
- Backup first: Always create a backup of your site before installing development versions
- Test environment: If possible, test on a staging site first
- Temporary solution: Development versions are temporary. Remember to update to the official release when it becomes available
- Settings preserved: Your existing Burst Statistics settings will be maintained when switching between versions
