IEEE Broadcast Technology Society / AFCCE Jules Cohen Memorial Scholarships
Established in 2016, The IEEE Broadcast Technology Society and the Association of Federal Communications Consulting Engineers will award scholarships of up to $10,000 to promising undergraduate and graduate students attending accredited U.S. Universities interested in a career in broadcast engineering. Jules Cohen Award for Outstanding Broadcast Engineering

Established in 2015, The IEEE Jules Cohen Award for Outstanding Broadcast Engineering is created to recognize a Broadcast Engineer exemplifying outstanding work in the field of broadcasting. Such work should include substantial technical contributions and demonstrated willingness to share this expertise with colleagues and young professionals within the industry.
This award will be given out annually to one suitable awardee per year.
Prize: Plaque, $1000 award, complimentary registration at all future Broadcast Symposiums
Funding: Funded by the IEEE Broadcast Technology Society. An award shall be given only if a suitable awardee is identified and only if the society’s budget is net positive, including the prize cost.
Eligibility:
- Outstanding record of achievement in, and contributions to, broadcast engineering, as detailed in “Basis for Judging” below.
- Candidates cannot be members of the IEEE Broadcast Technology Society Awards Committee.
- Eligibility and Selection process shall comply with procedures and regulation established in IEEE and Society/Council governing documents, particularly with IEEE Policy 4.4 on Awards Limitations

Basis for Judging: Selection among nominees for bestowing of the award shall be based on the following criteria
- Significant technical achievement as inventor, developer, or realizer.
- Demonstrated willingness to share expertise, and to act as a mentor to colleagues and young professionals. Such willingness may be demonstrated by contributions that may include (but are not limited to) having published or presented peer-reviewed papers, lecturing, such as by participation in the BTS Distinguished Lecturer Program, mentoring of students or industry professionals.
- Integrity and professionalism
- Quality and thoroughness of work
- Extent and reach of work.
- Commitment to success of clients, customers, and/or colleagues

Active participation in IEEE BTS and/or other media technology organizations
Presentation of Award: Preferably, at IEEE BTS Annual Broadcast Symposium; alternatively at other BTS-involved events (e.g., BTS AdCom meetings) if necessary. Presentation may be by remote A/V connection when the recipient is unable to attend the event in person

Established in 1993 to recognize original work by a graduate that represents a significant contribution to the field of Broadcast Engineering
Prizes:
- First prize: $1000 USD, Certificate, and an all-expense paid trip to the Annual Broadcast Symposium (including complimentary registration) to present their work.
- Second prize: $500 USD, Certificate, and complimentary registration to the Annual Broadcast Symposium.
- Third prize: $250.00, Certificate, and complimentary registration to the Annual Broadcast Symposium.
- First prize, second prize, and third prize winners will also receive one complimentary one year student IEEE membership.
Funding: Honoraria funded by the Clyde M. Hunt Memorial fund; administered by the IEEE Foundation. Travel and Symposium registration funded by the IEEE Broadcast Technology Society.
Eligibility:
- Nominee shall be a graduate student pursuing a course of study in a field related to broadcast engineering. The student need not be a member of IEEE or Broadcast Technology Society.
- Evidence shall be provided of the student’s significant contribution to original work in the field of Broadcast Engineering.
- Awarded annually if a suitable candidate is nominated
Basis for Judging: General quality, extent of original work, timeliness, and significance of the contribution to the broadcast engineering profession.
Presentation of Award: At the Annual Broadcast Symposium.
Scott Helt Memorial Award
An Award to recognize the author(s) of the most outstanding paper published in the IEEE Transactions on Broadcasting.Established in 1957 to recognize the best paper published in the IEEE Transactions on Broadcasting..
Prize: $1000.00, complimentary registration to a IEEE Broadcast Technology sponsored BMSB Symposium and Plaque for the Principal (First Named) Author, all other authors shall receive a certificate
Funding: Funded by the IEEE Broadcast Technology Society
Eligibility: Authors of papers published in the IEEE Transactions on Broadcasting during the calendar year

Matti S. Siukola Memorial Award
Established in 1982 the IEEE Broadcast Technology Society Matti S. Siukola Memorial Award recognizes the best paper presented at the IEEE Annual Broadcast Symposium. The award honors Dr. Siukola, an eminent broadcast antenna engineer for more than thirty years, who was stricken with a fatal heart attack as he completed his presentation at the 1980 IEEE Broadcast Symposium
Prize: Cash award of $1000 plus Certificate to the winning Presenter
Funding:The prize shall be funded by the IEEE Broadcast Technology Society
Eligibility: Any persons presenting papers at the IEEE Annual Broadcast Symposium are automatically eligible for this award. There are no requirements for membership or affiliation.Eligibility and Selection process shall comply with procedures and regulation established in IEEE and Society/Council governing documents, particularly with IEEE Policy 4.4 on Awards Limitations. Previous award winners are not eligible for substantially the same achievements (per IEEE Policies 4.4: An individual shall receive only one award for a given achievement, unless the significance merits a higher award, which may be given in the following year or thereafter.)

IEEE Broadband Multimedia Symposium - Best Paper Award
Established in 2009 to recognize the best paper presented at the Annual IEEE International Symposium on Broadband Multimedia Systems and Broadcasting (Broadband Multimedia Symposium). The paper topic, research, presentation materials and presentation delivery will all be assessed.
Prize: Plaque for the principle author, and certificates for the remaining authors (if any), plus complimentary registration for the following year’s Broadband Multimedia Symposium for the author accepting the award (year of presentation).
Funding: Funded by the IEEE Broadcast Technology Society
Eligibility: All Presenters of papers at the IEEE International Symposium on Broadband Multimedia Systems and Broadcasting are eligible.
Basis for Judging: Overall technical quality, extent of original work, effectiveness of presentation, quality of visual aids.
