Yo kidz! Remember to update/upgrade your to latest 14.3 prior updating to 15.0. Otherwise you'll need to use /rescue dir to fetch base.txz of 15.0 and unpack libsys.so.7 to /lib manually.

You're welcome.

tip of the day: use tcpdrop(8) to close any TCP connection(s) identified by combination of source and/or destination IP or port. And additionally, when pf(4) is being used, also pfctl -k can be used to drop firewall states as well.

Been using #ZFS in production on #NetBSD for a while, but really pleased with zfs send/recv this week as part of a much better backup strategy across our datacentres. All the promises are true!

Saw all these people fawning over the Bluesky code releases and they're like "wow, I can run my own Bluesky on my computer? This is amazing!!!!!!! Decentralization rules!!!"

... but they weren't running it on their own computers. They were starting up the React Native frontend on localhost but it still uses the production endpoints.

Some of these people claimed to work in tech. I am deeply disheartened by how stupid people are.

What I want from a cloud platform: An OTP-like abstract machine that lets me build programs from components that have a uniform communication model that works when they all run on a single node or when they are scaled up. Storage provided as a service exposed over the same communication model. Attestation of each component to guarantee that it is my code and is running in an environment where the cloud provider cannot violate confidentiality or integrity. All of this running on hardware inspired by mainframe and supercomputer designs that gives me a fast memory backplane, uniform access to accelerators, the ability to reason about independent failure domains at the source level, with automatic replication and fault tolerance for important stateful components.

What I get from a cloud platform: A complicated distributed system for managing the deployment of Linux programs on a pile of PCs.

Hey there!

The 24.7.7 release includes various system improvements, like the addition of OpenSSH "RekeyLimit" options and fixes for VXLAN interfaces and CRL-related issues. Enhancements include updates to the reporting system, intrusion detection, and IPsec configurations. Plugin updates cover os-caddy 1.7.3, os-freeradius 1.9.26, and more. Additionally, there are important updates to third-party packages such as Unbound 1.22.0, Monit 5.34.2, and OpenSSH 9.9p1. These updates improve both security and performance.

I could not resist snapping this tree yesterday on our walk and very vivid red IRL.
