Back to the Brushes 351

This month has flown in and whilst there have been no posts to date some paint has been moved about a bit.

The first entry for this month shows the start of a 28mm British force for Chain of Command in Italy. The figures are from Warlord Games and are based on the standard rifle platoon for that campaign:

Platoon Headquarters

Lt with SMG - painted

Platoon Sarg with SMG - painted

PIAT Team with 2 crew

2" mortar Team with 2 crew

Sections one to three

Corporal with either SMG or rifle - one painted

Rifle Team - Six riflemen

LMG Team - Bren Gun with three crew

From left to right - Forward Observer, Bren Gunner, Lt with SMG, Corporal with Rifle

This takes the total this month to:

4 x 28mm infantry

There will be a few more pics to follow tomorrow and the night after all bein gwell.

Cheers for now.

Back to the Brushes 347

In between work, complaining about the weather being very good - it's a Scottish thing - and being more active painting continues on the Crusader spear and crossbows with pictures to follow.

As a slight diversion put some flesh colours and started on the uniform in this motley crew.

The figures were built when purchased from eBay and are from earlier Warlord Games British infantry. By earlier, its the models not the period of WW2.

The rifleman on the left as view has a different approach to the flesh.

Block base tone, in this case Foundry Flesh A. Then thin coat of Foundry Flesh B, followed by another. Next is a very light colouring with Army Painter Flesh wash, followed by glazing with the Foundry mid tone. Still to apply subtle highlighting which will be a mix of Foundry Flesh B & C.

Is it worth it, will see once finished, but the thin coats of paints suits the warm weather.

Anyhoo, there will be another couple of figures from WW2 appearing over the weekend along with the first finished figures for this month's 30 Days 30 Miniatures Painting Challenge.

Cheers for now

Back to the Brushes 337

A couple of Analogue Painting Challenges back a platoon of D.A.K were started for Chain of Command in 20mm. The main platoon and support weapons were completed and then like so many other projects the motivation for the game disappeared. That is until now where its come back and this time also includes a platoon for Big Chain of Command in 10mm figures.

Battlefield Miniatures Pioneer Squad and regular infantry squad.

Battlefield figures are currently out of production which is a shame as the figures have a lot of character in them and are great to paint.

Pendraken 50mm mortar, sniper stand and anti-tank rifle

The Big Chain of Command platoon will also include support options the first of these are below. For the size of the figures the level of detail is exceptionally high making painting harder because if it's there then it needs to be painted.

Pendraken PAK 38 and crew

The bases for these are from Warbases and will be using the FOW small and medium bases for troops and vehicles to suit along with round cornered bases for smaller support teams as necessary.

Cheers for now

Back to the Brushes 335

Been working on a small force for Big Chain of Command in 10mm. As these are first 10mm figures painted here I've put together a little how to guide based on how the paint flowed.

Base coat of Vallejo Green Brown
Contrast Templar Black to cover everything

In retrospect, will undercoat in black for future vehicles and miss this stage out.

Recoated with the base colour, leaving black lines showing.

Yellow green and dark sand mix to base tone. Followed by a dry brush of dark sand alone.

The bases have been textured and are now waiting on finishing before joining the list of items to be photographed for the AHPC XII

Hope you found this interesting.

Stay safe and cheers.

Back to the Brushes 333

The AHPC XII is now in full swing and the entries are being posted by various challengers. Have started a few threads for this now. The pic below shows the variety in periods that are being worked on just now.

Clockwise from the top left corner:
  • Carthaginians in 28mm for SAGA
  • Crusaders in 15mm for ADLG
  • Hoplites in 15mm for DBA
  • Sargonid Assyrians in 15mm for DBA
  • Figures started before the AHPC began earlier this week
  • Skeletons in 28mm for Fantasy skirmish
  • Early Imperial Romans in 15mm for ADLG
  • Fallschirmjager in 28mm for Chain of Command
A lot of there to keep the painting mojo going and some are parts of previously started projects whilst others are starting afresh for this challenge.

More detail to follow shortly.

Stay safe and cheers for now

Back to the Brushes 319

Another two items towards this month's challenge.

Both are for use in WW2, the first in 1/72nd scale is the row of sandbags. A generic piece of scatter terrain that fits in with another piece painted in recent months.

The second figure is from Warlord Games Bolt Action range and is the first 28mm British Infantryman from this range. A lot of character in these figures and they paint up well.

This takes the tally this month so far to:

3 x 28mm infantry
6 x 15mm cavalry
1 x 20mm terrain piece

Stay safe and cheers for now

Back to the Brushes 311

The first of a small run of US Infantry that were part of a larger group that has moved on to pastures new. Sadly, nobody wants these in their grey primer; so here they are with a bit more colour to their backs.

The set comprises of one spotter team, two 60mm mortars and one 4.2" mortar that requires said mortar. The bases have still to be done on these then, its texture, static grass and varnished before going back to the market with them. Once they are complete will post full pictures and a price so if anyone is interested...leave a comment.

These are also the first finished figures for June 2021

11 x 20mm figures

Hope that you found this interesting.

Stay safe and cheers for now.

All Hell let Loose 20

This was a cheeky way of grabbing a few points in the AHPC XI as it was used in the Chamber of Challenges - Hall of Traps entry. Well it is a tank trap.

Purchased off eBay in late 2020 however have no clue on who the manufacturer is for this although there is another set of three to complete.

Cheers for now and stay safe

All Hell Let Loose 19

Another DAK squad based and ready for gaming in the future. The figures are from SHQ's Mediterranean German range and were painted a couple of months back in the 30 Days 30 Miniatures Challenges.

Support weapons for the above squad including a MG42, a Panzerfaust, PanzerBusch 39 and a grenade rifle.

Next from these will be the first of the engineering squad.

 Cheers for now

Back to the Brushes 273

Its bloody chaos here

In amongst all of this happening there has been some painting done and now mindful of the date here are the first finished figures; 16 20mm D.A.K from SHQ.

These complete the basic platoon and support options for the D.A.K in Chain of Command although there are several other support options to be completed to finish the force off.

Day 23

16 x 20mm figures completed

Cheers for now.

All Hell Let Loose 18

The next two support stands for the D.A.K. from SHQ Miniatures include an 8cm Grw 34 mortar and crew plus a second MG34 because you can never have enough suppressive fire...

These were started during the AHPC X however where not completed in time to be shown there.

To follow these will be another infantry section and some more support for the poor bloody infantry.

Thanks for visiting and hope you found something of interest.

Stay safe

Cheers for now.

All Hell Let Loose 17

The first two sections of the D.A.K infantry platoon recently completed in the AHPC X.  The figures are from SHQ again and there are a couple of rogues in the second squad that shouldn't be there. Call it artistic licence if you will.

The Panzerfaust armed trooper is an extra to be added in if required as a support option.

The second squad is actually the first squad of a pioneer platoon as full support option for the main platoon. This will be smaller in number however there will be additional extras as they are pioneers.

The rogues are in this squad and although in the same colours there are differences with their uniform that are visible if you are willing to look closely.

Thanks for looking off to continue painting another squad of the very same for the QC2020.

Cheers for now

All Hell Let Loose 15

First finished figures of this year and recently shown in this Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge C as the first entry for this year's challenge.

Picked these figures up at Carronade over a decade ago and decided that this would be their year.

The figures are from the SHQ Mediterrean range of WW2 Germans and are great figures in 20mm. The castings are clear, the detail crisp although to some the figures would slightly too thin.

There are two Lt and two radio operators and spotters however, these figures never go wrong.

There are more from this range to follow throught the challenge including a couple of pieces of armour, support weapons and an AT gun.

Scoring for these I believe is:

11 x 20mm figures at 4 points each, totalling 44 points for my first entry (8.8 % of total completed)

All Hell Let Loose 14

The first painted WW2 vehicles in over a year and hopefully not the last this year.  All three vehicles come from Britannia Miniatures - now Grubby Tanks - and have painted well.

Shown below from left to right there is:
  • SDKFZ 140 Flakpanzer 38(t)
  • PZKW III J with short 50mm barrell
  • PZWK II (f) - Luchs

More work in progress and finished items to follow shortly.

Cheers for now
