2000s
The American auto industry lurched from crisis to crisis for the first decade of the new millenium. The SUV craze that culminated with the Ford Excursion and Hummer H1 burst during the 2008 financial collapse, which ended up claiming not only the Hummer brand, but also Saturn, Pontiac, and Saab. That's not to say there weren't bright spots. The 2000s gave us the Ford GT, the BMW E46 M3, the first Subaru WRX for the US market, and a steady supply of AMG-tuned Mercedes-Benz models, not to mention proof that the water-cooled 911 was still a proper Porsche.
