Steps to make your own brill
At this stage, user brill pages (brills) are still relatively new. To avoid a free-for-all we require prospective new brillers to start by sponsoring a brill. By sponsoring we mean, explaining why your brill is a great idea so that an Admin or Moderator agrees (and gets the ball rolling).
1. Login
You have to be logged in to sponsor a new brill. If you don’t have an account, you can register for free.
2. Press “I agree”

All brills now have an “I agree” button. This adds your profile picture to the members who agree block and adds the brill to your “my sites” menu. The value is that you are now a logged-in user who can comment and thus sponsor a new brill.
The agree block is found on the brill-roll (sidebar) and looks something like the image shown here.
3. Visit the brill sponsoring page
Take yourself over to the brill sponsoring page. Scroll to the bottom and find the leave a comment form. There, pitch us your new idea for a thing that isBrill.com.
While you are doing that, perhaps see if there are any interesting brills being proposed and lend your support.
4. Someone with access to the conceptual big red “publish” button agrees with you
We are looking for positive, wholesome, and upbeat topics, ideas, fandoms, celebrities, and other brill things to build a brill for. Brills in other contexts might be called super-fan pages, shrines, or gardens.
The original isBrill was built around the concept of brill blocks. While these days isBrill runs on WordPress, we still like to design our pages in blocks. Take for example, this brill where the steps are each in their own bordered thingie. More on how to do that later. The point is, that WordPress can be used to do a lot more than is generally wanted for your average brill. As such, we are looking for brill makers who are willing to do things the isBrill way and help us figure out how and where to lock things down to make grilling easier. If that is you, a new brill will be started and you will be the admin.
5. Upload some media and fill out your brill quote
Now you have a fresh new brill it is time to add some images and fill out the basics.
You will also want to fill out your brill quote. Every brill has a quote which encompasses why the thing is brill. This is what will appear on the brill index and in the speech bubble.
- Select Customise and fill
- Add a unique icon
- Fill out the description (for the brill quote)
- You can also add brill-roll (more on that in a moment)
- Hit edit and add a “featured image” to the main page.
- You may wish to add some text, headings, pictures, and other elements that explain why your thing isBrill.com.
- Take your time. This is not a race.
6. Try to stick to one page
For most brills, a single in-depth page will be better than many short pages. A brill with one amazing page will usually outshine a brill with many shorter pages.
This page is where you express the brill-i-tude of the brill. Make it a good one. Mix headings and text with images, lists, links, videos, and other content types.
An introduction paragraph is often a good place to start. Add headings and further paragraphs if you like. Group them as this page has so that each unit of information stands on its own.
You access your brill-i-tude via the “edit page” button.
You brill-i-tude should have all of the following:
- An image
- Some boxes of content
- An invitation for visitors to post comments
7. Develop your brill-roll
The brill-roll is where your sidebar and brill-zone content goes. The sidebar is for all pages, brill-zone is per page. For more on the brill-roll see our blog post. You need to view the page in the customizer to edit its brill-zone.
Brill-roll is good for definitions of jargon, links to related content, and interesting asides related to the main page’s content.
You access your brill roll via widgets in the customiser and/or the admin area.
Consider adding a related brills section to your sidebar. Here are some graphics you might like to use.
8. Encuredge your friends to agree
A brill is hardly a brill until other people start pressing the I agree button. Once your brill is finished, ask your friends and followers to add themselves to the brill with the agreement button.
