Fran / AI++ - Voice-first Bitcoin AI assistant

22 Feb 2025

Reading time ~2 minutes

Fran / AI++ was a Bitcoin++ Floripa 2025 hackathon project built around a simple idea: use a voice-first AI assistant to make Bitcoin software easier to understand and use.

The goal was an assistant that could sit next to the user, explain what was on screen, answer questions in natural language, and reduce the intimidation factor around Bitcoin and Lightning apps.

Bitcoin++ Floripa 2025

Fran was built and presented during Bitcoin++ Floripa’s hack+play edition, which ran from February 19 to 22, 2025, with the hackathon itself starting on February 20 and project presentations happening on February 22.

The project received an honorable mention at the event.

After the event, the project also appeared in a public roundup of notable hackathon projects under the name “Fran by Goat++”, with emphasis on merchant and user onboarding for Lightning.

What the project showed

The prototype pushed on accessibility and onboarding rather than wallet infrastructure itself. In the demo, Fran combined:

  • voice and text Q&A about Bitcoin tools
  • screen sharing so the assistant could react to what the user was seeing
  • a code generator mode
  • community onboarding flows tied to GoBTC

One presentation slide summarizes the goal well: Bitcoin is powerful. Fran makes it accessible.

Why it was interesting

Most Bitcoin UX work improves individual apps. Fran pushed on a different layer: an assistant that could sit next to the user, explain interfaces, answer questions in natural language, and reduce the intimidation factor for first-time users and merchants.

That is what made the project interesting, not just that it combined AI and Bitcoin, but that it treated usability and onboarding as the main product surface.

Artifacts

The hackathon version still has a few public artifacts:

  • Hackathon Demo - BTC++/25 on February 22, 2025
  • Video - demo Fran BTC++ Hackathon on February 26, 2025

There is also a public slide deck from the event and a presentation screenshot preserved here as the project’s feature image.

Status

Fran stayed as a hackathon prototype rather than turning into an ongoing standalone product. What still feels valuable is the direction itself: accessible, voice-first Bitcoin education and app guidance.
