Several organization types have implemented quality management, i.e. manufacturing and service companies, educational institution, healthcare provider, and public administration. Many studies have been done in this area exploring the effects of quality management on firm performance. Those researches varies in terms of organizational background, quality management practices, performance measures, mediating/moderating factors, analysis tools used, and research models. Several authors have reviewed papers on this topic. Last journal review is done by Nair in 2006. No author has done elaborative effort to review papers published since 2006. The aim of this paper is to capture the development of research in this field and to offer further research direction. In this literature review, papers will be classified in terms of organizational background, quality management practices, performance measures, mediating/moderating factors, analysis tools, and their research models. Findings of review and recommendations for further research will be presented.
Optimization technique has been growing rapidly throughout the years. It is caused by the growing... more Optimization technique has been growing rapidly throughout the years. It is caused by the growing complexity of problems that require a relatively long time to solve using exact optimization approach. One of complex problems that is hard to solve using the exact method is Generalized Orienteering Problem (GOP), a combinatorial problem including NP-hard problem. Recently, there has been plenty of heuristic method development to solve this problem. This research is an implementation of cross entropy (CE) method in real case of GOP. CE is an optimization technique that relatively new, using two main procedures; generating sample solution and parameter updating to produce better sample for next iteration. At this research, GOP problem that occurs at finding optimal route consist of 27 cities in eastern China is investigated. Results indicate that CE method give better performance than those of Artificial Neural Network (ANN) and Harmony Search (HS).

The strategy of Skas is to excel at quality development to be able to constantly orientate towards and take actions to fulfill the need and expectations of its patients. Various initiatives related to quality management are in place at SkaS. The Six Sigma initiative here presented has been added to the current quality initiatives and has to date resulted in more than 20 completed improvement projects. Experiences from those projects form the basis of this paper.

Design/methodology/approach -Extensive review of the literature. Findings -This paper provides an overview of continuous improvement, its inception, how it evolved into sophisticated methodologies used in organizations today, and existing research in this field in the literature. Research limitations/implications -It does not provide an exhaustive review of the existing literature, or an exhaustive list of all continuous improvement programs, only the most well known. Originality/value -This paper traces how organizations have used various tools and techniques to address the need for improvement on various levels. The paper also presents research conducted in this field. It should be of value to practitioners of continuous improvement programs and to academics who are interested in how continuous improvement has evolved, and where it is today. To the authors' knowledge, no recent papers have provided an historical perspective of continuous improvement. Furthermore, our paper also discusses the existing research in this field.
