The LiveJournal oracle tells me that today is the date of birth of two distinguished individuals, whom I shall recognize accordingly.
First we have bitterbert, aka Charles. I've had the pleasure of knowing Charles for over a decade and witnessed him grow into a fantastic husband and father of two (soon three!), even though he's still crazy as all get out. You're a great guy and a good friend, Charles, and here's to many more years of happiness to come.
Then there's purpletempest, aka Sara. I met Sara at the Philly game several years back, and have had the privilege of watching her bloom into a smart, sharp, well- spoken, funny, and eloquent writer. She's tough as nails and makes no apologies for living her life as she wishes, and I'm proud to know her.
I also want to wish an early Happy Birthday to the avatar of fabulosity known as jourdannex. I hope to finally meet you once I'm safely ensconced in El Lay. :)
I've already notified the relevant parties, but for those who're interested, I'll be at Ren Faire this coming Saturday to see old friends and help other old friends celebrate their oldness. :)
This is probably too late to do me any good, but I've had a rough week and my intended plans for July 4 have ended up borked. I'm planning to go to Freaks United this evening, but my schedule for the holiday itself is free and clear.
Given that, where should I be at and whom should I be at it with?
It's Lights Out, Game Over. If you wanna you can check my stats. It's Lights Out, Game Over. Make way cause the kings is back.
Man, it's pretty easy to take part in a 24-hour LJ content boycott when you've been busier than 100 black mules from Mexico and don't have time to post a damn thing. But this isn't an April Fool's joke. I really am back.
Yesterday was my office's holiday party. As these shindigs go, it was quite good. Our boss made this awesome banana-and-strawberries concoction that looked so pretty we were hesitant to eat out of it. My team is made up largely of people like me--possessed of dry, laid-back senses of humor--so we shared some fun exchanges and generally reveled in the benign cynicism that comes from being a public servant.
On the way to the party, I walked past a tall black man nattily dressed and chatting with a co-worker, and he turned and said hello as if he knew me. It took me a second, but he was the CEO of the company I used to contract for when I worked at Walter Reed! The company does a lot of work with the DC government as well, so he was up here soliciting business. We exchanged pleasantries and I was on my way.
It was a nice moment that illustrated to me just how far I've come in those three short years alone, and how the world is smaller than we realize, yet no less amazing for it.
This was definitely one of the busier and more badass weekends I've had in a while. After playing it low for the last several weeks due to my job hunt, it was nice to get out there and cut loose old-skool style.
My weekend ended on an odd note--I came home to find that my monitor had burned out in fine style, so after rushing to Soho Tea & Coffee to answer some potential job-related e-mails, this morning I hustled over to Office Depot and picked myself up a sweet new 17" LCD from Viewsonic, and threw in a new programmable mouse as well. It looks to be a busy week, as I've got one confirmed job interview, possibly another, and at least one new long-term consulting gig to look forward to. Hoo ha! :)

I've mentioned that I've done semi-regular tapings of the "Fantastic Forum," a cable-access show popularized by the brightest and best denizens of Big Monkey Comics, many of whom can be found in my blogroll to your immediate left.
As it happens, the show's creator and our friend Ulysses is starting to upload the shows to Google Video! I am not in this one, but for those who wish to know about my secret life as one of the comics cognoscenti, take a gander at those with whom I fraternize...if you dare. ;)
