Signs And Portents

I tend to have very lucid and memorable dreams, but I don't generally write them down or think much about them after I wake up. Indeed, the ones I don't remember often turn out to be precognitive or predictive in very real fashion, enabling me to make better choices for the future when the moment is upon me.

But man, the dream I had last night was an absolute corker, and I need some answers as to what it means.

From my daily horoscope

Dear Customer,

Have you ever wished you could send out your resume and it would automatically go to the top of the pile?

For the next couple of days, you have a rare opportunity to make a maximum impact on potential employers as Mercury, the planet of communications and business negotiations, emerges from a three-week retrograde period.

GOD WILLS IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Quote Of The Day

I was randomly looking through the recent work of local D.C. bloggers I know, and I came across this amusing guide to romantic astrology by the Double M. Here's the entry on Aquarians:

Aquarius (January 20- February 18): Who the hell knows with these people? They’re crazy, all of them. You may as well act super eccentric as well. Dress like a blind mad scientist. Talk about robotics or some weird, off the wall, scientific topic. Don’t expect a commitment or any sort of emotional involvement. They don’t understand monogamy or feelings.

I quote this for universal truth. ;) Remember, ladies, the way to an Aquarian's heart is not through the stomach, head, or nethers, but only via the power of the geek. :)

Lazy Friday

There're a lot of interesting things I want to write about, but the reality is that the majority of my readers are preoccupied with vacation, prepping for vacation, or just counting the minutes until they can get out of work. :) Knowing that, I'm holding on to my latest observations, analyses, and snark until next week for maximum viewability. :)

Last night I finally made it to DC Drinking Liberally at Timberlake's. I made the mistake of eating dinner beforehand, which was a shame--Timberlake's has good food. The conversation was excellent--very smart people one and all. We discussed whether or not Bush is a Type-A personality, the economics of ketchup trading and why Libertarians hate it, and how to identify a Treo 600 on sight, among other things. :) Fascinatingly fun time, and I shall be back. I also ran into the senior editor for TomPaine.com, but I didn't get to talk to him. I'd love to do some work for them at some point, but I don't know if my credentials are even remotely policy wonk-ish enough.

I'm really worried about my horoscope. Both Astrozone and Astrocenter predict some kind of big financial disaster that's coming my way next week and may be job related. I think I have an idea of what is, and I can plan for it. If I get let go from here, it'll be a blessing in many ways, and I'm getting sufficient job interest that I know I could land on my feet soon. My major consulting gigs are pleading poverty right now, which is probably legitimate, but can also be code for just not wanting to give me the money I deserve. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt, but I'm definitely keeping my eyes open for other opportunities. On the other hand, a lot of negative and positive stuff I was expecting to happen from my horoscopes didn't happen. Perhaps I've diverged significantly enough that I'm in an entirely new space and my future can't be predicted.

I'm going to roll with the punches and stay ready for whatever comes, and I will, of course, keep you posted.

Tonight I'm gonna catch "Crank" as it looks tailor-made for me--gratuitous sex, violence, and Jason Statham for the complete victory!

Destiny

My daily Aquarius and Capricorn (rising sign) horoscopes:

Aquarius
Stop arguing with destiny, especially when you agree with what it's telling you. Are you just scared of the possibilities? Owning up to what you're really capable of means you have to stop playing it safe.

Previous Day | Next Day

Capricorn
Believe it or not, you're ready to take a risk. Actually, it's not even a risk -- you know the price of staying exactly where you are is just too much. Move toward what genuinely moves you. Don't stop 'til you get there.

Wow.

This is for all the people who say stuff like this isn't worth believing in. ;)

None of this is real

I got out of work a bit early yesterday, taking the time to purchase the necessary lifeblood that is comics. Not really much of anything to report. I'm amazed that people are comparing Brubaker and Lark's first "Daredevil" so favorably to Bendis and Maleev's run. It really isn't that different, only distinguished by Brubaker's leaner prose. That's a good thing to me--right now the story is so intense that any drastic style deviation will just fuck things up. I think I missed "Loveless" #4, which saddens me, but c'est la vie--Azzarello is taking his time with the initial arc, so I don't think I'll have lost a step.

mirage897Greg and I had been planning to hang out for a good while, but we couldn't find anything to do that wasn't too expensive or didn't require better planning. That's what happens when you get two ADHD-addled, impulsive guys to design a social agenda. :) So I elected to treat him to dinner at my favorite DC restaurant, Anna Maria's. Greg is officially my "homo life mate." He is such a good friend and wonderful dinner companion. I can chat with him about anything and not feel any restraint or self-consciousness. We discussed game (both SOTM and Requiem), politics, romance, lifestyle choices, and even why "Details" doesn't cater to any men we know. :) Then he took me to Teaism, which was a welcome treat--I'd never tried Jasmine Green tea before.

I caught the second round of "Sci-Fi Friday" just in time. Not much to say about "Atlantis," as I fell asleep halfway through. "SG-1" wasn't bad at all--I enjoyed the debate between Daniel and Tamlyn Tomita's character over the U.S. military's control over the Stargate project, and who knew that Teal'C liked "Old School"? It was great to see old vets like Tamlyn and Robert Picardo kick it up a notch.

As far as "Battlestar Galactica," FINALLY, we have a damn good episode again. Here's what I thought of itCollapse )

Workin' hard for the moneyCollapse )
I don't think I'm gonna go out today, as it's just too cold and nothing seems particularly appealing. Tomorrow is some needed grocery shopping and working on taxes, then I'm gonna hit Corrosion and get my club phreaq on that way. :) Oh, and I still need to watch this week's "Lost!"
