Hence the tackling of poverty in developing countries is a social obligation for governments, MNCs and MNOs at a national, intergovernmental and supra-national level especially with its institutionalisation within the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). Tourism was a sector that was actively promoted by the above mentioned institutions in order to act as a catalyst for development and poverty reduction. Nevertheless in the course of times tourism did not deliver the expected result: poverty reduction. Hence this book embarks on exploring, by adopting a participatory approach to research, the extent to which the various ‘controlling interests’, external (development agencies) and internal (government institutions), dictate and influence tourism development in the ex-colonial geographical areas under investigation and their relationships with various community constituents - mainly those in the local communities at the grassroots level. Should there, or should there not, be any concern about SL taking over RL? In order to address these questions sociability is examined within the SL virtual environment in order to determine the circumstances within which, and the lengths to which, social interaction is encouraged within this virtual world; where sociability should lie within SL; and how the virtual residents facilitate the social interaction. Virtual Ethnography was employed over a period of 1.5 years in order to investigate the social interaction of SL users. The findings indicate that people's opinion differs since some perceive SL as an instrument that promotes sociability and others as a deterrent to social life. In SL I have made such great friends, fell in love but have also been very badly hurt …. People you love suddenly disappear said one of the respondents, meaning that perceptions and experiences within the SL environment might resemble those of RL and so might its implications.

To aid the destination in developing its winter season as well, this research uses a qualitative inductive approach to explore the tourists' current image of the island and their motivations of visiting it. The research indicates that the current image, which essentially portrays Cyprus as a sun-and-sea destination is thought to dissuade tourists from perceiving the island as a year-round destination.

It draws on elements from two existing participatory methodological approaches: Rapid Rural Appraisal and Participatory Rural Appraisal. The approach was developed to suit the particular needs of investigating corporate social responsibility practices, sustainable development and poverty reduction through tourism, a fragmented sector which tends to be ambiguous and unstructured and lack cohesion (unlike, for example, agriculture or primary health care, both of which are familiar territory for Rapid Rural Appraisal and Participatory Rural Appraisal). The Rapid Situation Analysis bottom-up approach to data gathering was underpinned by supporting methods, including participant and direct observation, in-depth interviews, stakeholder focus groups and informal conversations. Moreover, the multiple methods were further enriched by the collection of visual data in the form of moving and still images. These research findings were fed back to the communities at the centre of the research.

Abstract: Corporate social responsibility (CSR) can be defined as the extent to which businesses meet the economic, legal, ethical, and discretionary responsibilities imposed on them by their stakeholders. CSR has become a very important issue for businesses because it affects financial performance positively and increases satisfaction of stakeholders. In this context, the aim of this study is to explain corporate social responsibility that is very important for businesses in a theoretical way and to examine how businesses that are operating in Kayseri Organized Industrial Zone perceive corporate social responsibility. In this study, which purposes of the businesses (legal, economic, ethics, discretionary) in the sample were functioned is tried to be determined. According to the results of the analysis, managers think that CSR occurs with its four dimensions in their businesses. Legal responsibility has the highest mean among these dimensions. It is thought that, this study constitutes a basis for studies that will be done in the future by determining the awareness of businesses in Kayseri about CSR and which dimension is considered important.
