Twilight Ringwraith

After seeing this amazing paint job by Kevin from Mitril of his Twilight Ringwraith (above) over on One Ring, I knew I wanted to try an emulate the look he achieved. I am nowhere near the artist he is but took a stab at it. Instead of purples I went with blues, his face I ended up with a very light grey and his eyes glowing blue instead of orange.

The One Ring August Painting Challenge: Shagrat (Completed)

Posted in Lord of the Rings / Fantasy on August 4, 2012 by botwt

I decided to try to emulate the paint scheme that Games Workshop used for their model, and I think it came out pretty good. I am now liking this miniature more so than I did before I started this project. As bare metal he just was kinda ok, but now paint I think it turned out to be one cool sculpt!

Angmar Barrow Wight (Redux)

I wasn’t overly happy with my Barrow Wight that I converted a while back, so I reused the body and pinched the head from my broken King of the Dead to make this model.

The One Ring August Painting Challenge: Shagrat

Posted in Lord of the Rings / Fantasy on August 1, 2012 by botwt

All of my versions of Shagrat (original version) have been converted to represent a regular run of the mill Mordor Uruk-hai, so I’ll be using the newer version of him for this challenge.

Angmar Spectres

Decided to work up three more Spectre conversions for my Angmar army. Used a ruined Meriadoc Brandybuck, a savaged Halbarad and a messed up King of Men that were laying in the bottom of my bits drawer as the bases to these miniatures. Merry had no arms, the Halbarad model was armless and headless and the King’s left arm was mangled, also no head. I worked around those missing/damaged parts to look like they were amputees on the hobbit and king; Halbarad however was treated to the head and arms of a Mantic ghoul miniature. For the hobbit’s head I used a plastic orc head and sculpted hair onto it; the King of Men became an elf with a spare Celeborn head.

Scibor Monstrous Miniatures has a new set of Dwarven Ruins Terrain that would look amazing for either a Lord of the Rings or other fantasy gaming board. And at 23.10 € it will definitely end up in my collection.

The One Ring July Painting Challenge: Frodo (Finished)

Posted in Lord of the Rings / Fantasy on July 9, 2012 by botwt

Put in nearly 8 hours on Saturday with another 6 hours on Sunday and I finally finished off all three of these models today. I am pretty happy overall…photography doesn’t really do them justice as I still am getting the feel for my camera and really need to get a better lens.

The One Ring July Painting Challenge: Frodo (Addendum)

Well, I am pounding away at these two hobbits and figured that I might as well try to tackle Gollum as well. So I assembled and converted this model to go along with the Two Towers versions of Sam and Frodo.

The One Ring July Painting Challenge: Frodo (Part II)

Well, I got on a little roll tonight and started getting some flesh tones, eyes and hair on these two along with the base color to their cloaks. Still more blending to do on their faces, but at least I have a start on these guys and am not waiting until the end of the month like I did with the Witch-king.
