The Jedi So Far

Posted in Sci-Fi on July 22, 2010 by botwt

With Kenobi on the block to be painted, here is the group of Jedi I have so far. Yoda looks a bit large, but only because he is closer to the camera.

Here is Kenobi, and I still have a Qui-Gon Jinn to work on as well…just not sure what I want to do with him yet. As you can see the paint jobs on these WotC models are bloody awful (even compared to my lousy attempts LOL)! Oh, and the lightsabers are always messed up and beyond salvageable.

Plo Koon

Well, this is the best photo I could score…depth of paint job is lost, it looks shiny, I really need to invest in a light box.

😦

He is off center on the base as I want to add some little do-dads to that side of his base, and I decided to shy away from the typical Jedi colors slightly as I didn’t want him to look exactly like Kenobi when he was finished. All in all I think he came out pretty well (though you cannot tell from this photo).

Black Numenorean Marshal

Posted in Lord of the Rings / Fantasy on July 21, 2010 by botwt

Seeing how there isn’t a Black Numenorean Marshal for the Lord of the Rings SBG system (but there are rules and a statline for him) I decided to convert one from the Games Workshop Dark Marshal miniature. I removed the helm with a Demmel tool and placed a Hasslefree Miniatures goblin head to serve as a corrupted human head.

The heads circled are the two that I’ll be using for this conversion. The head on the left is for the mounted version and the head on the right for the foot counterpart.

I’ve never liked the idea of the different named wraiths that GW came up with…they seem so much more menacing being anonymous, however the sculpt of the Dark Marshal was cool enough for me to purchase and then mangle properly into something useful for my Morgul army.

Unarmored Celeborn w/Sword

Posted in Lord of the Rings / Fantasy on July 20, 2010 by botwt

Been a while since I have played around in my pile of Lord of the Rings models, but thought I’d do what I love to do…convert. So I drilled out Celeborn’s hands and then taking the sword from a plastic 2nd Age elven swordsman, I cut the hilt in two and repositioned it where I drilled out the hands. Filled the gaps with green stuff and presto…armed unarmored Celeborn.

One BMF to add to my Jedi collection

Well, Mace Windu has been nearly completed (again grass and foliage need to be added)…still finding the little mistakes here and there, but at least with these blown up images of the models I can tell where there are to they can be remedied.

And a shot of him next to his buddy Kit

More Eclectic Weirdness for My Collection

When I was a kid I saw a Disney film called The Black Hole…it wasn’t the greatest sci-fi film but was pretty cool for a kid. I recently bumped into Inso’s blog and saw the little robot from the movie…and being the goof that I am I knew I just had to have one. He mentioned that Black Cat Bases made the little robot and once I found their online store I picked this little guy up.

Small Floating Robot 1

I am such a tool! 🙂

Kit Fisto Completed (for now)

Posted in Sci-Fi on July 19, 2010 by botwt

My hands have been giving me some issues and at arms length this miniature looks pretty good (to me), but with the blown up photos I can see all sorts of sloppy bits and mistakes. Overall I am very pleased with his tentacles and the smoothness of the overall conversion. Once I am having a better day nerve-wise and my hands aren’t as much of an issue I’ll try to rectify some of the painting issue with this one (and add some grass and foliage).

And yet another one primed and ready to go

Mace Windu…just a small conversion here. Took the leftover lightsaber from the Plo Koon conversion and put it onto this model. I was originally going to use a paperclip, but had the spare part and ta da!

Zuckuss (aka 4-LOM)

Posted in Sci-Fi on July 18, 2010 by botwt

When Empire Strikes Back came out I was 10 years old and one of the Star Wars figures my parents got me was 4-LOM (actually he was supposed to be called Zuckuss, but I had no idea).  He was one of my favorite figures until my brother took him on a field trip at school and accidentally threw him away with the wrappers of his lunch…I was really bummed out. We didn’t have alot of money growing up so it was never replaced. When I bumped into the WotC Star Wars miniatures I knew I had to pick him up…now most of these plastic models are crap sculpts, however this one isn’t too shabby, not GW quality mind you, but not bad either (Yoda was another one that was just able to be saved by a repaint).

Looking back at the old action figure I am half tempted to paint him to resemble that model, but am not certain it will look as well as the film version. Then again it will remind me of my childhood…hmmm, then on the other hand I could always hit up eBay and buy the action figure and paint the miniature in the film color scheme…oh, the decisions!

So far I have the miniature of him based and primed for painting, but I think I’ll have to noodle on this quandary for a while.

Any suggestions are more than welcome? 🙂

Plo Koon and Obi-Wan Kenobi

Posted in Sci-Fi on July 18, 2010 by botwt

Today I have the Plo Koon conversion completed; he and Obi-Wan primed and both are ready for some paint. Plo was again converted from one of the WotC Star Wars plastics and the Knight Models Obi-Wan miniature.

As for Obi…well, can’t improve on perfection! The production model of him is excellent and I cannot wait to dig into him…but first things first…have to paint up Kit Fisto first.
