The story is written in first person past tense so you’re automatically pulled into the story. The plot is entertaining and a good start to a new series. One thing I think the author can do to improve is to tighten the exposition. I feel this would help the story flow easier. Aside from that I felt it was a fun read
Every second of Kailo’s time in the Realms has prepared him for this one moment: the final showdown between him and the Dark Mages. If Kailo and his crew win, the Realms will be saved. But if they fail, the planet of Awahl will fall into a darkness it will never recover from.
The Dark Mages have been preparing a long time for this day. Dark magic, hosts of enemies, and treacherous devices of war are among their deadly arsenal. In order to stand a chance at success, Kailo will need to rally the greatest fighting force ever seen from all the Realms, including fearsome dragons.
When it comes time to fight The Great War, will Kailo’s preparations be enough? In this planetary battle for survival, the bonds of family and friendship will be tested to the limits.

Evil's lease is up. Time for Stone to clean house.
Alastair Stone, overworked occult professor and full-time mage, is barely managing his complex double life. Then an old friend begs him to mentor a new apprentice, and Alastair’s life goes from “it’s complicated” to “completely unhinged”.
His troubles double down when a university colleague wants him to investigate a massive old house where things are going bump in the night.
Easy job, right? Just turn up, put on a little show, and pronounce the house clean. Problem: The house isn't clean. And this job will take more than a simple paranormal hoovering.
If Stone can't deal with the malevolent spirit reawakening in the basement, he'll have a major disaster on his hands.
And if that's not bad enough, a trio of dark mages want to break it free. They'll do whatever it takes—including seducing Stone's young apprentice and using him against his master.
With time running out, Stone has to stay alive long enough to uncover the spirit's secrets. But even if he does, he might not have enough power to send it back and save his apprentice.
